I trained as a teacher of secondary Mathematics and evolved into a Computing teacher as well. I offer mainly Mathematics resources written for the current Australian Curriculum (NSW). Luckily Mathematics is recognisable all over the world, so I hope that teachers in different countries can use some of my work.

Polypuzzle Activity

A jigsaw activity. Can be used at the end of a lesson as a problem solving activity for pairs of students. The second page needs to be prepared by copying it onto different coloured sheets of paper (enough for half your class) and laminating them. Cut out all the 22 shapes from each sheet and place into into as small resealable plastic bag. You would then have a class activity for pairs of students that could be reused many times. MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and symbols

This is a 3 page resource for teachers of Mathematics to use when they need some new ideas about how to teach a lesson and engage a class successfully. Tips for preparation, rewards for students and different approaches to use with low ability classes are some of the topics covered. Hopefully you can find some new tips or be reminded of some old ones.

Students need to know their number facts when completing these worksheets. There are 2 double-sided worksheets with solutions. The four operations are used with the positive and negative integers. These worksheets could be used with Gifted and Talented students, while less able students could use a calculator. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-4NA compares, orders and calculates with integers, applying a range of strategies to aid computation
Matchstick patterns
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Matchstick patterns

(0)
A double sided worksheet with answers. Students can use matchsticks to help them construct patterns, make predictions and describe patterns. A good activity for students working in pairs to discuss their solutions. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-8NA analyses and creates geometric and number patterns, constructs and completes number sentences, and locates points on the Cartesian plane
Two-way tables
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Two-way tables

(0)
A set of 3 single sided worksheets with solutions. These start with an example of a two-way table, examples of how to interpret it and questions for the student to answer. The second worksheet has a partly completed two-way table with further questions for the student. The third worksheet takes the student through construction of a two-way table. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-18SP uses appropriate methods to collect data and construct, interprets and evaluates data displays, including dot plots, line graphs and two-way tables.
Volume of rectangular prisms
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Volume of rectangular prisms

(0)
A double sided worksheet with solutions. Students need to be able to identify the length, width and height of a rectangular prism and calculate its volume. They then need to be able to construct two other different rectangular prisms with the same volume. Students will gain a deeper knowledge of volume of prisms. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-11MG selects and uses the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate volumes and capacities, and converts between units of capacity
Transforming Cartesian coordinates
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Transforming Cartesian coordinates

(0)
A single sided worksheet with answers. Students need to be able to plot points on the Cartesian number plane. These points are then transformed. Points are joined and polygons are identified. Lengths are identified and areas of polygons are found. Students also need to comment on changes occurring due to the transformations. A wide ranging review worksheet suitable for class work or as a take home task. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-11NA creates and displays number patterns; graphs and analyses linear relationships, and performs transformations on the Cartesian plane.
Left and right directions
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Left and right directions

(0)
A double sided worksheet and a single sided worksheet, both with solutions. Students need to use their knowledge about the directions of left and right in order to solve some problems. Also includes some turning 90 degrees to the left or right. Suitable as revision of these concepts at the end of a lesson or as a homework task. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-17MG locates and describes positions on maps using grid-reference system
Tetrominoes
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Tetrominoes

(0)
An activity with solutions catering for a wide range of ability. The first activity is where students need to be able to follow instructions to construct and cut out, manipulate the shapes to form a rectangle, and calculate area and perimeter of rectangles. There is also a challenge for more able students. The second activity is for younger or less able students, where the teacher prepares the shapes beforehand and then can ask the students to form a rectangle, or give the students the shape of the rectangle for them to fill in with the shapes (like a jigsaw). (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-2WM selects and applies appropriate problem solving strategies, including the use of digital technologies, in undertaking investigations
Area of non-right-angled triangles
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Area of non-right-angled triangles

(0)
A double sided worksheet with solutions. The student is led through a process of cutting a non-right-angled triangle into 2 right-angled triangles and then forming a rectangle. This allows them to understand better how to find the area of a triangle by manipulating the pieces. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA3-10MG selects and uses the appropriate unit to calculate areas, including areas of squares, rectangles and triangles
Algebra properties
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Algebra properties

(0)
A double sided worksheet with answers that enables students to think deeply about the properties of algebra. Useful for Gifted and Talented students. This worksheet could be worked on by pairs of students to allow them to talk about the properties and explain to each other. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-3WM recognises and explains mathematical relationships using reasoning
Coordinate Geometry 4
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Coordinate Geometry 4

(0)
A double sided worksheet with answers. This is a good revision activity and can be used in class or given as homework. The students have to plot points in the first quadrant of the Cartesian Plane. They need to name 2D shapes formed when the points are joined and use Pythagoras to find the lengths of oblique lines. Lastly the students need to determine the perimeter and area of the shapes formed. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-16MG applies Pythagoras’ theorem to calculate side lengths in right-angled triangles, and solves related problems
Polyiamonds
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Polyiamonds

(0)
A double sided worksheet with solutions and an equilateral triangle dot grid. Students need to think deeply about the shapes that they are required to construct. Students need to calculate the perimeter of each shape. Could be used as a take-home task or a group activity. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and symbols
Volume relationship
Maths2MeasureMaths2Measure

Volume relationship

(0)
A double sided worksheet with worked solutions. Students need to name 3-dimensional shapes and reproduce them larger on isometric dot paper. They need to calculate the volume of the original shape and the new larger shape. They need to consider the relationship between the volumes and the enlargement factor. (Australian Curriculum) NSW MA4-14MG uses formulas to calculate the volumes of prisms and cylinders, and converts between units of volume
