I have worked with children for over 40 years. I specialised in Computer Science, SEN and Speech and Language. In 2005 I achieved joint first in the Becta ICT practice awards. I taught Computing to years 1-6 for seven years. I created the Advanced  Colourful Semantic resources to help the children in my groups understand grammar and sentence formation. I wanted a scheme I could introduce in Reception Class then use as they progressed through school individually, in groups or full class.

WW1 Autograph book 1918 History Resource

WW1 Autograph Book This is my Grandfather’s First World War Autograph book and a very treasured possession. Due to its age this book does contain writings that would be considered controversial today. However it gives a unique opportunity to see autographs collected in 1918 and a rare insight into how people felt at the time. Some of the images are not politically correct and you may need to choose which ones to share with your class. This Autograph Book belonged to my Grandfather so it is very special to me. He fought in France from January 1915-October 1918. This Autograph book was written 1918. Some entries are funny, some are sad and some make you think. There are also some lovely drawings, one ‘The Coming Generation’ refers to the formation of the RAF. PowerPoint Show Mp4 I have included the jpeg pictures in a zip file

Action Verbs with Dolly and Teddy

This is a resource I made for use in Speech and Language sessions. It has printable cards of Dolly and Teddy which will help to introduce six action verbs: sleep, walk, sit, wave, read and eat. There is also a printable board game which can be used to make bespoke activities… The cards can be printed and laminated to use as flashcards or make a double set for matching games. There are examples of simple sentences using my ‘Colourful Speech’ format. Creating bespoke resources, targeted at an individual child or group of children, encourages progress.

Colourful Speech Grammar Bundle

4 Resources
This extensive bundle introduces you to my ‘Colourful Speech’. I started using Colourful Semantics with a group of children, however I found it difficult to integrate it with the whole class learning and progression through school. I developed Colourful Speech which I found to be more flexible. Starting with Simple Sentence Structure the children gain a knowledge of grammar which will develop as they progress.

Social Story- Broken Pen (it was an accident)

(0)
Social Story- A story that helps a child to understand a situation or event. This is a story I wrote one evening for a six year old girl I was working with. It is very basic and the illustrations are very simple. It helped her to understand that, sometimes things just happen by accident. It helped her to understand that, sometimes people can misunderstand what has happened. It helped her to understand that, If we use the wrong body language, what we are thinking may not be clear. It helped her to understand that, when you have had time to think, you can chose a better way to explain. Writing bespoke stories, targeted at an individual child or group, can quickly deal with issues that arise. Stories shared in the classroom or at home helped us to work as a team. Bespoke, targeted, Speech and language resources address the needs of an individual child.
