This resource is designed to cover the importance of water and biological significance for objective WJEC objective b of unit 1.1. This can quite easily be adapted for other exam boards that cover the biological significance of water. Included: Powerpoint Covers all of the content required to answer WJEC/EDUQAS exam questions on the nature and properties of water alongside the biological significance. Including; thermal properties, density, as a metabolite,high latent heat of vaporisation and specific heat capacity. Includes suggested teaching activities. Mind map, graph drawing, knowledge recall and past paper exam questions with mark schemes. Please see teacher guidance in notes section of ppt slides. WJEC/EDUQAS AS Biology Unit 1.2 - Cell Structure & Organisation - LESSON & ACTIVITIES This is a lesson designed around the WJEC/EDUQAS Unit 1.1 Objective A. Learners should be able to recognise the listed organelles on a diagram or electron micrograph of eukaryotic cells, and draw them onto a generalised diagram of a cell, understanding their relative size. Learners should understand that organelles work together to carry out functions within cells, e.g. in the synthesis and transport of biological molecules such as glycoproteins. It could however be adapted for use by other major exam boards. This is designed with WJEC/EDUQAS in mind, but fits with all major exam boards with Simpson’s Diversity Index on the specification. Aim of lesson: To teach students how to assess biodiversity of a habitat calculating Simpson’s diversity index Included: Powerpoint - this runs through learning objectives, how to sample species in a habitat outdoors, with a worked example using to data to calculate Simpson’s diversity index and how to interpret the result. Introduction to the in class activity of biodiversity sampling. Several past paper questions and mark schemes incorporated for practice with students. There are extra resources spanning into A2 regarding belt transects and kite diagrams. All images included are non-copyright or referenced Activity & Student Worksheet - this is an in-class biodiversity sampling activity designed to allow students to try sampling without having to visit an outdoor habitat. Outline - using soup/seed mix as a variety of organisms/ placed in a tray, students use mini quadrats to sample, collect data and calculate the simpson’s diversity index. This is a powerpoint on the cardiac cycle with incorporated activities and animation links for a 1 hour lesson. This does not include electrical coordination of the heart beat. Suitable for AS level or Year 1 Biology - WJEC, AQA, OCR A worksheet activity is in the powerpoint with answers provided. I was using exam questions as a plenary, but have not included them in the powerpoint.

**Powerpoint that will cover a series of lessons to help you teach homeostasis and the kidney. ** Specification points covered: WJEC - 7a -i Eduqas - 4 a- i Included: Begins with homestasis and a graph drawing exercise to identify positive and negative feedback. Moves on to kidney structure identifying labels on diagrams but also micrographs. Structure of the nephron and past paper exam questions In detail it covers with diagrams, animated slides: ultrafiltration, selective reabsorption, water reabsorption and the countercurrent multiplier mechanism, osmoregulation with ADH and aquaporins. Deamination and the excretion of different types of waste products. Some dialysis. Please note that some knowledge of the topic will be needed to teach - this is an aid to help cover all of the points. Past paper questions are included throughout.
