WJEC/EDUQAS AS Biology Unit 1.2 - Cell Structure & Organisation - LESSON & ACTIVITIES
This is a lesson designed around the WJEC/EDUQAS Unit 1.1 Objective A.
Learners should be able to recognise the listed organelles on a diagram or electron micrograph of eukaryotic cells, and draw them onto a generalised diagram of a cell, understanding their relative size.
Learners should understand that organelles work together to carry out functions within cells, e.g. in the synthesis and transport of biological molecules such as glycoproteins.
It could however be adapted for use by other major exam boards.
Included:
Powerpoint providing all the teaching needed to cover this objective and for students to be able to answer exam questions. ***Please note: All activities also included in the powerpoint. ***
Activities (In powerpoint)
Suggested teaching activities for learning the name and function of organelles
Summary exercise - fill in the gaps
Exam style questions
All images used are either non-copyright or referenced
I hope this will be helpful.
Part of the WJEC/EDUQAS Resource Bundle. Please see my shop for further resources.
This is contains a powerpoint including the following;
Interactive labelling of mitochondrial structure
Interactive glycolysis process
Detailed descriptions of glycolysis, link reaction
Template on which to annotate the electron transport chain + chemiosmosis on a white board
Embedded mini quizzes/spot checks
Past paper practice with mark schemes
This is designed with WJEC/EDUQAS in mind, but fits with all major exam boards with Simpson’s Diversity Index on the specification.
Aim of lesson: To teach students how to assess biodiversity of a habitat calculating Simpson’s diversity index
Included:
Powerpoint - this runs through learning objectives, how to sample species in a habitat outdoors, with a worked example using to data to calculate Simpson’s diversity index and how to interpret the result. Introduction to the in class activity of biodiversity sampling. Several past paper questions and mark schemes incorporated for practice with students. There are extra resources spanning into A2 regarding belt transects and kite diagrams. All images included are non-copyright or referenced
Activity & Student Worksheet - this is an in-class biodiversity sampling activity designed to allow students to try sampling without having to visit an outdoor habitat. Outline - using soup/seed mix as a variety of organisms/ placed in a tray, students use mini quadrats to sample, collect data and calculate the simpson’s diversity index.
Teacher Guidance Sheet for activity - this guides this teacher in how to implement the activity.
I hope you find this useful and would appreciate your feedback if you use it :)
