This is a reading comprehension resources for Roald Dahl’s Boy. It covers chapter 6 ‘Mrs Pratchett’s Revenge’ and includes a series of questions to check student understanding of the chapter. No copyright infringement intended by including the text extract.

This SPAG lesson is suitable for KS3 and KS4 and looks at punctuation and how it can be used for dramatic effect. The lesson hinges on quotation/speech marks, ellipsis and exclamation marks. Great as an introduction to each of the punctuation forms before moving on to more in depth study. Introductory lesson to SPAG for year 7. Included is a punctuation chart (this resource is £1 sold separately on my shop) to asses current knowledge and any blanks can be filled in at the end of the lesson. This PowerPoint will typically take multiple lessons to complete depending on ability level and can be adapted for use in KS2. The lesson covers commas, apostrophes, brackets/parenthesis, colons and semi-colons with practice for each piece of punctuation included. Once the activities are completed, students need to write a description of their classroom using a range of punctuation.

English lesson used as an introduction to Morris Gleitzman’s ‘Once’. This lesson helps students practice their note taking skills to complete a newspaper article about the Holocaust. There are some distressing images in the videos so please, use discretion for the students in your care if necessary. Table resource for who, what, where, when, why and how is included to help students when taking notes on the key information.

Punctuation table activity that works great as a starter and at the beginning of a SPAG module to check current knowledge and understanding. The first copy of the table was used for year 7 and suitable for all abilities. The second copy has been adapted for KS2 middle ability. There are two follow up paragraphs that need punctuating for students in KS2 to practice.
