In this lesson, students will study the causes, events and impact of the Reformation in Europe in the early 1500s. The lesson focusses on the actions of Martin Luther and explains the main criticisms that some people had about the Catholic Church. The lesson then covers the differences between the Catholic and Protestant Church and methods of worship.
This lesson can either be used in a unit of work about the Tudors and Henry VII/VIII or as a stand-alone lesson covering the Reformation.
This is a fully resources lesson which includes a warmup, starter task, engaging background information, various learning activities, challenge tasks and learning reviews.

This lesson is to be used as a first lesson introduction to the GCSE History topic, Medicine Through Time. Students will gain an understanding of the exam format, question types and topics. There are then a choice of tasks relating to the key terms, key periods of history and key causes that will be used throughout the lessons.

This lesson examines the newly defined crimes of the 20th century with the aim of explaining their creation.

This lesson has a focus on how the people of Medieval Britain treated and attempted to prevent medical problems linked with the Theory of the Four Humours and Miasma. The lesson includes both supernatural & religious treatments as well as the more rational treatments of the time.

This lesson has a focus on the development of nuclear weapons from 1945 until the end of the 1950s.
RECAP: Students given an A-Z grid and asked to think of one or two key terms they have already learned for this whole unit.
BACKGROUND: A basic slide covering the development of nuclear weapons. Allows the students a chance to understand and discuss the various types of nuclear weapons at this time.

TASK 1: A printable comprehension sheet using the fact sheet from the lesson which is also provided.
TASK 2: Students to use the fact sheet to create their own timeline/living graph to show the development and threat level of each stage.

In this lesson, students will learn about the early life of Elizabeth I as a princess growing up in the royal household. The lesson will cover the type of lessons she excelled in at school, her education at home and her relationship with her family.
Students will be able to complete a number of activities to demonstrate their knowledge of Princess Elizabeth’s education such as writing a school report for her.

This lesson covers the actions and policies of Mikhail Gorbachev from 1985-1991. The lesson includes all the information needed in a helpful fact sheet to compliment your other resources.
RECAP: Missing terms quiz about the actions of President Reagan from lesson 16.
STARTER: A discussion question about the forms of technology available in the West by the 1980s and how this might show the difference between capitalism and communism.
STARTER: A cartoon for the students to discuss showing Mikhail Gorbachev and the ‘breaking up’ of the Soviet Union. Students have to interpret the cartoon as a way into the lesson.
STARTER: 3 sources. Students should read each one and ‘infer’ what they can about the actions of Gorbachev.
BACKGROUND: Various, clear slides to outline the events and actions taken by Gorbachev in this time before the students read further.
TASK: Students are asked to complete a fact file about Gorbachev. Students are given an outline of suggested headings for this fact file from basic facts to a description of each of his actions. They will then be prompted to examine his importance and such turning points in the Cold War.

This lesson has a focus on the personality and qualities of William as both an invader and king. It also covers William’s relationship to his brother Robert who will be key to having an understanding of the final lesson (31).
