This lesson starts by identifying the characteristics of a volcano and how a volcano erupts. There are facts, photos, maps and diagrams about each types of volcano, these are categorised as basaltic, andesitic and rhyolitic. There are also details of other ways in which volcanoes can be categorised e.g. volcano explosivity scale (VEI). There is also a note taking sheet and a card sort to consolidate students knowledge of the different volcano types.

This lesson uses maps and photos to teach students about the Haiti earthquake. There is a causes gap fill activity and an effects and responses classification activity. The lesson also includes questions from the sample assessment materials. There is also an opportunity for students to consider how the Haitians can modify loss and modify vulnerability to earthquakes.

This is a learner handbook I created as current Quality Nominee. It includes information on the BTEC courses and how they will be assessed. It also includes learner expectations, units studied, grade calculators, staff and student expectations. After that are the centre policies which have been approved via desktop review. These include registration and certification, assessment, internal verification, appeals, assessment malpractice and employer involvement policy.

This lesson will start by asking the students to recall the stores and flows in the carbon cycle. They will then be shown diagrams of the carbon cycle for the rainforest, tundra/taiga and deciduous forests. They will compare these and suggest reasons for the differences, before drawing their own carbon cycle to scale. They will be given information on carbon exchanges in the rainforest before identifying the impact of an individual tree on the carbon cycle, which will require them to apply the knowledge they have gained form the lesson. This lesson forms part of a series of lessons and is available as a bundle.

The pupils firstly plot the daily weather regime of the rainforest onto a time line, by listening to a diary entry. After that they are introduced to the water cycle in the rainforest and the convectional rainfall that occurs. Diagrams and a word bank are included. Next, there are a variety of nutrient cycle diagrams provided, which students can use to create their own nutrient cycle diagram. Finally there is a plenary quiz. This booklet is designed to follow up work undertaken on a coasts field trip. It includes a range of skills based questions involving methods, data presentation and analysis. Each section includes a GCSE mark scheme to assess the student’s work. These resources can be adapted to be used with fieldwork activities undertaken at a range of locations.

This lesson contains a worked example followed by a series of exercises where the students can practice and apply their knowledge. Included within the PowerPoint are worksheets for the students to fill in and a full set of answers, including worked calculations. I designed these to be used either as homework tasks or as an introductory lesson / skill practice lesson. They are also designed to encourage the students to memorise the formulae as these will not be included in the exam papers even at GCSE level.

This resource includes a wide of data collection sheets which could be used with KS3 to A Level including beach profile, cost of coastal defences, evaluation of the effectiveness of defences, field sketching, groyne height measurements, wave information. They can easily be adapted to any location you are studying and incorporated into your own fieldwork booklet.

Firstly students are introduced to shifting cultivation, as a sustainable way for tribes to live in the rainforest. Students are then asked to use the information provided to undertake comprehension activities on 3 schemes; reforestation, conservation and improvements in agriculture in the Amazon. there is also a youtube video link to accompany the conservation scheme. Students are provided with note taking sheets and should ensure their notes focus on the impacts of the 3 schemes on the carbon and water cycles. To finish students evaluate the 3 schemes before reaching a conclusion as to which is the most effective. This is part of a series of lessons and is available as a bundle.

This fieldwork booklet is designed to link in with the People of the UK GCSE topic. It includes index of decay and environmental quality surveys, UK crime app statistics, accompanied by site descriptions. It also has a multi-cultural survey based in Leeds City Market. There is a survey about the buses, which is a sustainable transport strategies. All the survey sites are identified on the front cover. They have been chosen to allow students to study the CBD and financial district. This fieldwork booklet also links in with my other GCSE lessons based on Leeds

This lesson is part of a series of lessons available as a bundle. The lesson starts with an examination question about the climate, flora and fauna of different biomes. Answers are provided. Next students are required to annotate and describe a map. this provides an opportunity to see how much the students can recall about rainforest location. Next students are given information about the different layers, which they can annotate onto a diagram of the rainforest. After that there is a mini-plenary testing recall so far. After that there is a climate graph drawing and interpretation activity, with a partially completed climate graph provided. The final part of the lesson involves writing a description of the climate graph. All resources are included at the end of the PowerPoint.

This is the first in a series of lessons about biomes, available as a bundle. The lesson introduces students to the concept of ecosystems that occur at different scales. Students are asked to classify ecosystems of different scales. They are then introduced to abiotic and biotic factors. Biomes are located globally and students are introduced to the different types of biome. Students are then required to used graphical skills to draw and interpret graphs, showing temperature ranges and total rainfall for a range of biomes. The lesson is linked to an examination question and mark scheme and to finish there is a quiz with answers to test what the students have learned. Resources are included at the end of the PowerPoint.

This lesson is part of a series of lessons that can be bought as a bundle. In this lesson the students are asked to think first about how a range of biotic and abiotic factors in the rainforest are interdependent. Some are modelled for the students, who will need to add to the diagram. Next the students are required to locate the Peruvian Amazon and note down some facts about it, as background information to their case study. Next the students are asked to complete a top and tail activity to identify the value of the rainforests to humans. The main activity of the lesson involves the students working in small groups to interpret a range of images about 4 threats to biodiversity (gas production, oil production, gold mining and forest clearance for farm land) before independently writing their own PEE paragraphs. There is a writing frame and set of connectives to help the students to structure their written work if they need it. Finally there is a mark scheme to allow the students/teach to assess the students work.

This lesson is designed for the new A2 syllabus. this lesson includes a water cycle card sort, where pupils classify the water cycle into stores, flows, inputs and outputs. It then goes onto define condensation, before outlining the characteristics of different cloud types. It has a revision test to review the students learning on the water cycle, clouds and the importance of water to maintaining life on earth. Answers to all activities are included and all worksheets/ hand-outs are within the lesson PowerPoint.
