Lesson objective: To generate and describe linear number sequences In this lesson, students will be taught how to identify the rule of a number sequence. They will then complete a range of problems which require them to identify and generate their own number sequences by finding the rule in one and two-step equations. 3 differentiated activity sheets are provided with answers. Duration: 1 hour This is an engaging lesson which comes with an interactive power point presentation and all corresponding activity worksheets. It is designed for Year 6 but could easily be modified to suit lower KS2 and KS3.

In this lesson, students will learn what dissolving is including terminology such as solution, solute and solvent. They will learn how to differentiate between dissolving and melting and will complete a quiz on what they have learnt. They will test materials for their solubility by dissolving them in water following the experiment proforma before analysing and presenting their results. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again is a children’s fantasy novel by English author J. R. R. Tolkien. The Hobbit is set within Tolkien’s fictional universe and follows the quest of home-loving Bilbo Baggins, the titular hobbit. This lesson is based on The Hobbit, Chapter 2. It looks at the rules for speech punctuation and how to alter speech according to different characters. Students will add in the correct speech punctuation to an extract as well as write the dialogue for a clip of the trolls. A great lesson for studying speech and/ or the novel. Persuasive Advertising is a type of product promotion that aims to persuade a consumer for buying a particular product. In this lesson, students will learn the FREDEPTORS acronym for: F- facts and font R- repetition E- exaggeration D- description E- emotive language P- pictures T- the rule of three O- opinions R- rhetorical questions S- slogans They will look at a range of persuasive adverts and will be challenged to decide how they are made persuasive to their audience. They will then try to sell an item themselves using these techniques using the activity sheet provided.

In this lesson students will learn the difference between direct and indirect speech. Lesson objective: To compare and classify geometric shapes based on their properties and sizes and find unknown angles in any triangles. In this lessson, students will recap 2d shapes and their properties such as lines of symmetry and parallel lines. They will look closely at the different types of triangles and will play ‘Who am I?’ guessing the different shapes. In this lesson, students will work towards the objectives: To describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system and to describe the sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies. They will first learn about how the Solar System formed before learning how we know that the planets are spherical. After this, they will be tasked to explain what they have learnt so far. Following this, they will learn about how the planets orbit the Sun and will be tasked to demonstrate this by creating a Solar System from toilet roll and fruit. In this lesson, students will compare the lives of rich and poor Victorian children. They will learn what jobs poor Victorian children did through videos and reading and will undertake research on each of these: ideas will be given. They will also learn about how the lives of Victorian children were changed as a result of the actions of Dr Barnardo and Lord Shaftesbury and will be tasked to write a persuasive letter to Queen Victoria arguing for the rights of Victorian children. At its height, the Roman Empire ruled over much of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In this lesson, students will investigate how the Roman Empire finally fell. They will learn what an ‘empire’ is. How far the Roman Empire spread, where it covered at its peak and the events that led to its fall. As an activity they will complete questions on the text read and plot the events of the fall on a timeline. They will also write a script to serve as the commentary to the video clip of Rome’s rise and fall. This lesson is intended for KS2 students but can easily be modified to suit KS3.
