This handy 2 page doc gives a clear overview of eight key theories relating to language in transition, including Halliday’s Functional Theory and the Cultural Transmission Theory. This is good to use in conjuction with the other available resources that introduce Unit 2 Language in Transition.

This 5-page resource contains challenging textual analysis tasks, looking at samples of modern English from 1800s onwards, including an extract from ‘Jane Eyre.’ The tasks enable A Level English Language students to get to grips with key frameworks and levels, including lexis, syntax, pragmatics and discourse. It can be used as a stand-alone lesson that will take approx 2 hours.

The resource contains questions the students answer as they watch/listen, and there are discussion questions at the end. A separate answer key is provided. A comprehensive student-led study of Singaporean English, in preparation for Unit 2 - Language in Transition - of Edexcel’s IAL in English Language. The pack contains: A PPT containing a fact file of Singapore and a selection of real life sign posts, giving students opportunities to unpack authentic examples A handout containing a range of student-led tasks on lexis, grammar and phonology. The tasks draw on authentic 21st century examples of spoken Singlish, preparing students for Section A of the Unit 2 Language in Transition exam.

This is a teacher model of a top band response for Section A of the examination. The question is taken from the January 2022 examination paper. It follows the structure and framework prescribed by the exam board.
