Included are guidance for each investigation, a scaffolded investigation sheet, a mark scheme and a student challenge sheet. Reflection of light - Mirror maze

Suitable for use as a starter or plenary. This is a one page diagram that the students are asked to complete. It asks the students to complete the path of a laser as it is reflected off a series of mirrors to a detector. They have to work out the angles of incidence and reflection. Requires a protractor. Can be used for AQA P1 - Waves - Reflection.

Written for AQA C1 - Atoms, elements and compounds. But can be used at KS3. Print in colour on A3. Students need Molymod kits, the worksheet directs them to build different models of molecules and identify if they are elements or compounds.

KS3 Biology - Variation Lesson

This is a lesson on variation. It involves an activity where the class are split into groups, each one getting a feature of their classmates to measure. They then produce a graph of the their results. The graphs can be compared and types of continuous and discontinuous variation discussed. Resources needed: Tape measures, meter rulers and graph paper. Several printouts of the experiment sheet will also be needed.

This is an activity suitable for a lesson or as a piece of homework. It is designed to develop literacy and promote an interest and awareness in science. The students find a science based news story published in the last 7 days that they find interesting. They pick out keywords and find definitions for them. They research additional information and summarise the story in their own words.

These are 12 picture cards each describing a different stage of the rock cycle. They can be cut out and arranged by the students. Could be a 15 minute activity on its own, or could be a longer activity if you ask the students to use the cards as a basis for making their own poster.

In this activity students draw a graph modelling the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Then sketch and explain how the curve changes with increasing concentration, a catalyst and increasing temperature.

Build a food web activity

Build a food web activity

An activity that allows students to build a food web and work out the numbers of animals. Then asks them to see how changing the numbers of one animal changes the rest of the web. Requires: String, scissors and counters. Sheets need printing and photocopying. Includes results table and questions and a completed results table for the teacher. Also includes slides to incorporate into your lesson to review the activity. There is a version which is for more advanced students and a lower ability/starter activity version which is just to build the food web.

Displacement reactions (Experiment worksheet)

A worksheet for a practical chemistry experiment where students investigate displacement reactions. Using a spotting tile, students react combinations of metals and salt solutions, then idntify which ones have reacted. They then compare their results to the reactivity series and try to write word equations for what the have seen.
