Being a Good Neighbour Worship Plan (Primary)

An assembly that encourages children to think about what it means to be a good neighbour and caring for those around them. Starts with a clip of Emporer Penguins huddling together to keep warm. This links into Jesus' famous saying of "Love God and love your neighbour as yourself". Then uses the story of Jesus healing Simon Peter's mother and a video of Katie's Krops (about 9 year old Katie Stagliano who grew a giant cabbage and donated it to a local food kitchen) to give examples of being a good neighbour. Finishes with a reflection and a prayer that challenges the children to think about why Jesus said loving God and loving others was the most important rule to live by, and how they can be a good neighbour.

Uses the story of The Magic Thread from William Bennett's The Book of Virtues, and Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, to help the children consider how they will use the next 31,536,000 seconds of the new school year. Also links to Doctor Who and how, even though he can travel through time, he believes it's important to make every second count.

Uses the story of the Feeding of the Five Thousand, plus two other passages where Jesus told his disciples that they had to become like children in order to enter the Kingdom of God. Then uses 3 current examples of children who have seen injustice in the world and done something to rectify it, and in turn inspired adults to become involved.
