I specialise in general science resources for KS3 and KS4 and biology for KS5. I try to make my resources suitable for non-specialists and teachers new to the subject, by including answers to any questions and full step-by-step explanations. I love flashcards and try to make a set for each unit I deliver. I am in the process of upgrading these to colour coded (differentiated) sets. All newly added resources will have a remote-learning version too (just in case :-))

Osmosis lesson AQA GCSE Biology Cell biology

(19)
Used as an introduction to osmosis for a high ability year 9 group - but can be tweaked for lower ability and revision. Used as a freestanding lesson before attempting the AQA required practical on osmosis. Lesson contains a 10 minute video by the wonderful 'Amoeba Sisters' but I've made my own question sheet for the students to answer as the video is playing (answers on the Power point). You will want to change the starter to suit your own group. If you don't need a complete lesson there's a little worksheet included where students have to show which direction the water would move (net movement) for six different concentrations. Please rate this resource if you have found it useful - if not, comments on how to improve it are very welcome.

This quiz is based on four Activate units: Matter (Chemistry) Cells and Movement (Biology) Electricity (Physics) Forces (Physics) These four rounds have five questions in each. There are also rounds on general knowledge of events this year and a picture round. The quiz lasts around 30 minutes at a relaxed pace - suitable for either individuals or teams.

Making animal cells using plasticine and petri dish KS3 Year 7 Biology Activate

This was an additional lesson in our scheme of work for the cells and movement unit. A small group of year 7 students completed this activity to consolidate their work on cells as they struggle to complete writing activities. This is a more ‘hands on’ way of learning the material so is most suitable for lower ability students and SEN. Not really an activity for high ability. Could be a fun activity for a science club. Need petri dishes and plasticine in a variety of colours.

This is a set of five Powerpoint presentations which covers 10 lessons. It breaks down the assessment criteria into manageable chunks with instructions on which parts to complete in each session. It should help to keep the students on-track, so no-one falls behind. The presentations should be printed off and given to the students (or emailed to them) so they can use them to guide their own study.

This is a single lesson on ‘How to tackle long answer questions in science’ Produced for KS3 it is also suitable for KS4 lower sets. We have produced 5 sets of 4 lessons for year 7 and year 8 which we deliver in 5 ‘skills weeks’ throughout the year. I will make these lessons availably singly, in sets of 4 and as whole year sets as they become available. This is year 8 - skills week 1, lesson 1 The lessons can of course be taught in any order and as stand alone lessons. Any exam questions mentioned in the presentations are not my own, and are included for your convenience only. Suitable for delivery by specialists and non-specialists. AQA GCSE Biology Ecology 102 flashcards

This flashcards have been made using the AQA biology text book as source material. 78 of the questions are both combined and separate science 24 of the questions are separate science only (and are labelled as such) Print double sided (flip long edge) to produce the correct answer on the back of the correct card. These took me a whole weekend to make so I hope they’re useful. (also available in a bundle)

Please note the preview shows cards with words carried over from one line to another - they do not look like this, I’m not sure why the preview has squeezed the file! I have created these homeostasis flashcards to help my GCSE biology students to revise for their Biology exams. This set covers homeostasis. Print double sided (flip on long edge) so that the answers are on the back of the card. In this set I have identified which cards are separate science only, so that I don’t give these to my combined science students. It took my eight hours to make these so I hope you find them useful. I have other sets available, but this is the first set that I have highlighted the separate science content. I hope you find it useful - please leave feedback if you have time.

This is the Introduction to Homeostasis lesson I made for my year 10s as a gentle introduction to the topic. It includes a link the the Amoeba Sisters video on the topic, but I’ve included a sheet of questions students should try to answer while the video is on so they don’t switch off.

No text books are needed for this session. This is a gentle introduction to homeostasis that I created for my lower ability year 10s. There are a few slides where they need to take notes (print off for some students) There is a 6 minute video (the lovely amoeba sisters) overview of homeostasis. I have included a question sheet (answers in powerpoint) so students are answering questions as they watch. A short exam question at the end to test understanding - then a quick plenary question session to check recall of the main points. The exam question is basic - you may want to replace this for a higher ability class.

This is a Powerpoint that covers all of chapter B1 of the AQA Biology text book in one revision session. Can be used for pre paper 1 biology revision or for an end of chapter test for younger students. It’s a whistle-stop tour of the main points from this chapter. Students write down the parts they are unsure of only There is no content in this chapter than is separate science only, so this is suitable for both combined science and separate science.

B1 Cell Biology (structure, transport, division) Keyword definitions and test

(0)
Encourage your students to learn key definitions as they study with this keyword definition list for B1 (AQA). Includes blank list (so students can find their own definitions), definitions and test. I will be making these for each unit as I prepare to teach them so look back here for more lists appearing. Each keyword list is designed for top set Biology students aiming for grade 9. For lower sets and combined science students, delete as many of the words as needed to make it manageable for them as appropriate.
