This is a single lesson on ‘How to tackle long answer questions in science’ Produced for KS3 it is also suitable for KS4 lower sets. We have produced 5 sets of 4 lessons for year 7 and year 8 which we deliver in 5 ‘skills weeks’ throughout the year. This is a revision mat split into eight sections with between three and five questions in each section. I used this as an activity at the start of a revision session. Depending on how they scored in each section students would be directed to specific pages in their revision guide or text book. An answer mat is included so students can self or peer assess,

We are following the Activate 1 (New 2016) book. This is the lesson I created to deliver a lesson to teach revision skills prior to the first end of unit test. I am a non specialist, and I really struggled with SHC. I needed to plan my own lesson from the text book and break it down into simple steps. This lesson is all of the information on specific heat capacity in the AQA text book, building from first principles. All of the questions asked in the powerpoint have the answers on the next slide. It worked a treat with my high ability year 9s as a theory lesson prior to completing the required practical.

This is the Introduction to Homeostasis lesson I made for my year 10s as a gentle introduction to the topic. It includes a link the the Amoeba Sisters video on the topic, but I’ve included a sheet of questions students should try to answer while the video is on so they don’t switch off.

This quiz is based on four Activate units: Matter (Chemistry) Cells and Movement (Biology) Electricity (Physics) Forces (Physics) These four rounds have five questions in each. There are also rounds on general knowledge of events this year and a picture round. The quiz lasts around 30 minutes at a relaxed pace - suitable for either individuals or teams.
