Easy glossary of Btec command words linked with Pass, Merit, Distinction grades. One of the tricky parts of delivering Btec is getting students to understand the marking criteria and the skills needed to make the leap to the next grade. By clearly identifying the command words students can more easily explain what they need to do and how to do it for an assignment.

Great for homework , revision or using for a cover lesson. Students must play noughts and crosses by selecting three tasks in a straight row. Covers both Doctor Strange and I, Daniel Blake* with a number of tasks ranging from simple memory recall to extended writing and creative thinking.

I’ve always received very positve feedback from exam boards (AQA, OCR and Pearson) for how well organised and presented my coursework is when submitted for moderation. I really suggest using an easy mark sheet where you can hightligh what the candidate has acheived as well as space to write comments. This year I have put together this mark sheet for the NEA which I will print for each students and attached at front of their work.

A great little competition for KS3 students (years 7-9). I ran this competition on behalf of our English and Media faculty and this PowerPoint was used by English teachers to launch the competition in class. Students have to create a new fantastical beast and the wand needed to tame their new creature. Students completed the task for homework, class teachers collected and chose their top three before winners were announced. There is a simple certificate attached for winners and runner ups.

I like to use this lesson at the beginning of all my KS4 courses (Btec and GCSE). This whole lesson explores one of the main media key concepts: audience. It introduces students to the NRS social grade and Young & Rubicam’s 4Cs concept. A homework task is included and asks students to log their own and the media consumption of a parent over a week - this sets them up for the next lesson which explores primary and secondary audiences. This lesson can be found as part of my Btec Tech Award Component 1, Learning Aim A SOW and my AQA GCSE Galaxy CSP SOW. Feedback is really appreciated :)

Recently used as coverwork to fill a 3 week gap without a teacher. Students were asked to complete a mini Component 3-style project: research, plan, complete and evaluate a production task. Students were asked to create a vintage and modern horror film poster. This complemented Eduqas’ advertising products as well as giving students a taster of what they will have to do for their NEA in the summer. Great feedback from the students who really engaged with this project and handed in a some convincing posters!
