Probability scale

This lesson would be great to introduce the probability scale or for lower ability students. There is a probability scale match up. The students have to cut up the match up with the probability scale, read the sentences and put them where they would be regarding the probability scale. There are also GCSE question for student to complete.

New GCSE foundation differentiated starter activities (1-8)

(1)
This resource is made for students doing the new GCSE foundation spec. There are three levels of challenge with each level of challenge having a worded question to complete also. The answers are provided too. A really good revision tool to help students practice different skills and learn where each section will be around in their exams.

Angles on a straight line, at a point and in a triangle

(0)
This differentiated lesson looks at angles on a straight line, angles at a point and angles in a triangle. The worksheet is split into essential, excel and challenge. The challenge section looks at students combining angle facts that they have learnt. Answers are provided and there is a singing plenary to finish with. In this, students are to write the correct answer on their mini whiteboard and then it will play part of glee for the students.
Expanding double brackets easier

Expanding double brackets easier

(0)
This resource is aimed at lower ability students or students seeing expanding double brackets for the first time. There are essential and excel stickers that can be made to give to the students. The main activity is a match up activity that works really well if printed on different coloured card (essential-green, excel-orange, challenge- red and the answers in blue). Students can then match up the answers and the observer or the teacher can easily see who is on which level. The blue answers have a one mark answer (not simplified) and a two mark answer (simplified) to again differentiate between the students. The answers are also attached. The plenary is a singing plenary (frozen), the students use their mini whiteboards to give answers, if the answers are correct, then part of frozen will play to them.

There is also a differentiated dominoes set that can be printed out and then students can play. These are categorised into green, orange and red, red being the hardest. There is also a singing plenary at the end of students to complete on their mini whiteboards. If the students get the answer correct, then it will play part of family guy for them.

Histograms

(0)
Differentiated histograms lesson. Essential questions where students are to find the frequency density, excel questions where students find the frequency density and draw the histogram. Challenge questions where the students have to work backwards to find missing frequencies. The students have handouts that they can use to stick in their books instead of drawing it out themselves. There is a plenary question that is an exam question. There are also success criteria for the lesson so that students understand where they need to get in the journey of the lesson.

Angles on straight line and triangle very low ability

(0)
Differentiated lesson for a low ability class looking at angles on a straight line and in a triangle. The smart board goes through how to answer the questions and gives some for students to complete on their mini whiteboards. Differentiated worksheet for students to complete with answers. The plenary activity is a 'singing' plenary, where students are presented with a question to complete on their mini whiteboards and then it will play part of glee if students get it correct.

Differentiated intro lesson to multiplying algebraic terms. There are questions to complete on mini whiteboards, three levels of challenge for students to complete. There is also a 'singing plenary'. Rounding to nearest 1dp, 2 dp and 1sf

(0)
This lesson is aimed at lower ability students or students that have not done rounding before. There is a complete lesson, with a main activity. The best way to do the main activity, is to cut the 'post if notes' and either stick them in groups (essential questions together, excel questions together etc) around the room, or put them in piles around the room. Students then get an answer grid that they fill in when they pick up a question and answer it. Students need to check what question number they are answering and which level of challenge to make sure they answer in the correct box. There is a tip sheet that can be printed and again put around the room for students wanting to complete to 1sf. Answers are provided and students can write a strength and target following on from that. There is a singing plenary to finish with. This is where students are asked a question, they are to answer it on their mini whiteboards, if they get the answer correct, part of family guy will play.

Area of compound area and area of circles

(0)
Differentiated lesson looking at compound area and area of circles. The lesson goes through how to find compound area and leads onto area of circles. From here there is a differentiated worksheet that students can complete looking at these elements. There is also a challenge section which looks at more complex area.
Trig and Pythagoras

Trig and Pythagoras

I have found that students struggle to know the difference between pythagoras and trig. So this lesson is designed to help students know the difference. There are four levels of challenge. Green- just pythagoras, orange- trig, red- pythagoras and trig and purple- combining the two. Students really find this lesson helpful to knowing when to use which.
Complex angle problems
hclark08hclark08

Complex angle problems

(0)
Differentiated lesson on complex angle problems. Lesson looking at calculating missing angles and giving reasons. There are two booklets with answers for students to complete. Also a 'singing' plenary at the end for students to complete. This is to be done on mini whiteboards and students produce the answer and then it will play part of mamma mia.
Ratio worded and finding ratio of amounts

Ratio worded and finding ratio of amounts

The notebook file is the lesson, So through this with the students and get them to complete ones on their mini whiteboards. Then students to complete the GCSE questions. This is differentiated as students can start working on any level of questions. It is best printed as a booklet for students to complete. Then the plenary activity recaps what should have been learnt in lessons. Personally, I get students to complete this by themselves in silence to show themselves what they have achieved within the lesson.
Factoring quadratics
hclark08hclark08

Factoring quadratics

(0)
There is a Brain in Gear activity which helps students with the factorising quadratics. Then a differentiated starter activity expanding and factorising expressions. Then the lesson walks through how to factorise quadratics with challenge questions and what it will look like for students in their exams. The essential is to factorise positive quadratics and excel is to factorise any, challenge to be able to solve. There is a slide that explains how to do this for students when they are completing the differentiated match up activity. There are three levels so I print them on green, orange and red card with the answers in blue so that the observer and yourself can see which level students are doing. The plenary activity looks at the 3 levels of challenge and students have to answer with their mini whiteboards.
