I used this assembly as an introduction to a new whole school drive on improving students numeracy through a tutor time activity called the maths Olympics. The assembly starts with a video which shows photos of a boy from birth to 11. The students were mesmerised by it and it meant they all came in nice and calmly. The assembly looks at the number of days and hours students have been alive and what they have done with their time and focuses on the importance of having a growth mind set to make the most of their time. The assembly lasts around 15 minutes and worked really well. Enjoy

In this lesson students are challenged at 3 levels (lower, middle, higher) which is assessed throughout the lesson. Once the baseline has been assessed there differentiated worksheets for the lower ability to work with you on, a framed middle ability sheet to give them more practice on their own and a higher ability sheet to stretch the most able. This is a fully differentiated lesson which assesses where students are in real time during the lesson, encouraging them to reflect on their own practice and decide on what worksheet they will need to complete. The lower ability sheet is for completion with the teacher and gets students to continue with a pattern and then decide on the pattern to pattern rule and frames it enough for them to create nth term expressions. It also includes really challenging pattern sequences fro the most able to allow them to be stretched. All worksheets have been built in and answers are provided.
