This is a trapdoor activity to get your students to practise their speaking skills. It is played in pairs. Each person chooses an option for each sentence in their head. One starts reading the text and trying to find out the other’s choices. Each time they make a choice, the partner nods or shakes his/her head. If the choice is correct the person continues until they get it wrong. When they get it wrong, the other person has a go. The aim of the game is to finish first. I did this with my Yr10 students and they enjoyed it a lot! Enjoy and don’t forget to feedback!

Claim the parcel translation game Activity for revising different verb tenses and topics from new GCSE AQA books. You have a table with different verbs tenses/sentences and project it on your interactive whiteboard/wall. In groups of 2 (max 3) they write the answer in Spanish to one of the parcels/boxes on their mini white boards, come to you at the front of the class (you check) and if they have the answer correct they can claim the parcel/box. You write their names/team name on a post it notes and stick it over the parcel/box on the interactive whiteboard. Then, no one can do this parcel/box anymore. The winner is the group to have most parcels/boxes claimed at the end. Works well as end of module revision or translation practice. Don't forget to feedback!

Caliche de mi Pulgarcito (Spanish spoken in El Salvador)

Here is a book I have written about the Spanish spoken in El Salvador. It contains 62 pages, a lot of vocabulary, expressions and images used on a daily basis in the Spanish of El Salvador. The whole book is in Spanish and it is arranged in themes. I decided to do this as a little project or challenge as I was learning more about this country and was really interested in the language which is very different from Castellano used in Spain. Many of my friends and family from El Salvador have helped and contributed towards this book. The illustrations in this book were drawn by a local artist who works for a national newspapers in El Salvador. Some extracts of this book could be used in lessons to compare with Castellano Spanish but it is more directed at teachers wanting to increase their knowledge of Spanish or teachers who are just curious and want to learn more about another culture. Enjoy and I hope you find it useful! If you would like to buy a printed copy, you can always contact me directly.

Here is a Powerpoint presentation I have made with all the answers and some writing titles for 120/180 words tasks. This is to go with the French GCSE Translation booklet (attached) made by Kloereese on TES. My classes have found it really useful for revision before exams. Enjoy!

I worked on the food topic with my Yr 8 and designed this worksheet on pancake recipe. We look at imperative and also reading comprehension. After studying the recipe, I took them to the food tech department to make some pancakes. A nice way to end the term. Enjoy and don't forget to feedback! :-)

La Meteo / The Weather

Gap filling exercise which I designed for my Yr9 (Grade5/6) on the weather (I guess would be suitable for Yr8 top set or Yr10 too). Text has both present/future weather forecast. I gave each student a different strip and they then go around the class asking each other for some words they haven't got, reading the text in French. It's differentiated so you can give out strips according to your students' ability. The strips get harder and harder. The complete text is on the last strip for the teacher to help if needed. Then, I got students to translate text in English followed by adapting it to write a weather forecast about France or another country they like. Enjoy and don't forget to feedback :-)
