Murder Mystery 2 - Video Based Interactive Story

(0)
My second fun and engaging interactive murder mystery that can be adapted for any student grade. The focus of this one is on witness observation and deduction from visual and aural clues within the story. This resource can be used to practice a variety of different skills, including the basics of listening, writing, vocabulary and grammar or more advanced skills such as use of inference and critical thinking. Great for regular writing classes, group work, homework assignment or a fun fill in class. The main advantage of this resource is that the teacher can mix and match the materials outlined below to work with any class. There are materials for print only, display (slideshow), multimedia classrooms, or student iPad/laptop use. This gives the teacher the flexibility to make a lesson adapted to not just the age or level of the class, but the available technology as well. In addition, there are teacher explanations for each resource. The materials include: 1. The story video. This is an animated story about a group of 6 people attending a house party to celebrate the owner's purchase of a new painting. There is a blackout and one person will die. The students will watch and listen to find clues as to what happened to the victim and deduce the identity of the murderer. 2. A student task sheet consisting of 8 pages in PDF, containing and outline of the story, resources for recording the timeline and suspect movements, the murder scene, suspect motives, story cards and print for essay writing. 3. A set of separate motive cards with pictures of the suspects. In color and black and white. 4. The same suspect motives as a short movie. This is available as an online video. It can be used where listening is the focus of the lesson. 5. A separate worksheet for new vocabulary for those students that need it. 6. A 12 page PDF explanation resource for teachers. 7. As of November 2017 have added a small video of the suspect motives to this, along with a promo Youtube video of part of the movie. Altogether this resource contains 34 pages in PDF. The Snow Witch - A Japanese Tale of Yuki Onna

This illustrated text is of an old Japanese ghost story from a book of Japanese folk tales called the 'Kaidan' that was published in the early 1900's by the writer, Lafcadio Hearn. I have designed this as a multi-media resource with a Teacher's Guide providing links to sites that provide detailed history of the genre along with more examples of the 'Kaidan' type of Japanese mystery tale. In addition, there are links to a haunting animated video of the story and a version that provides an added quiz and question prompts within the video itself. 56 pages This resource contains; 1. A Teachers Guide outlining the possible classroom uses of the text and links to other useful sites and videos. 2. An illustrated full color 12 page PDF version of the story that contains the full text, a set of comprehension questions and character analysis and point of view writing prompts for ELA students. There is also a short history of the Kaidan genre along with comprehension questions and a writing prompt for Social Studies students. 3. The same PDF text in black and white and another version with white background for easier printing. 4. An ePub version for teachers use or for students with tablets. 5. A student answer's PDF for the text questions. 6. An online Zaption video that contains an animated video of the story with embedded questions that can be used as discussion prompts by the teacher in presentation form. (Zaption sign up is recommended for this). The story is about two men stuck in a snow storm who take shelter in a small hut. While sleeping there they are visited by a woman in white who proceeds to kill the older man with her icy breath, but spares the young boy with the warning that he must tell no one of what he has seen. Later, she turns up in his life as a beautiful young woman, and the unsuspecting young man marries her. They have a happy life with many children until one night he decides to tell her the story of the woman of the snow..... The story is in the public domain, as are all of the ukiyo-e images I have used. Some of the others are m own work. Shackleton and the Endurance - Keynote

(0)
Keynote is presentation software similar to Powerpoint that is produced by Apple Computer and can be used on a Mac or iPad. Be aware that this is the latest version (2014). Please download the preview if you are unsure if it will work on your computer. This lesson is an overview of the story of Ernest Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance during their two years trapped in the wilderness of the Antarctic. The story is told with the aid of a timeline of the expedition in the medium of a Keynote - similar to a Powerpoint presentation but a lot more versatile! There is a need in literature and social studies classes to evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats including visually and aurally. This Keynote Presentation is an engaging way of reaching this standard. The lesson contains; 1. A Keynote which contains 21 slides that tell the story visually, with humorous speech bubbles, and full narration. There is also a short quiz and the last part contains a short online video of a journal entry from a fictional member of the crew. The Keynote can be used by a teacher using a computer or iPad connected to a TV, electronic blackboard or projector. Alternatively, it can be used directly on student's iPads as a self study resource similar to an e-book. 2. A pdf file of materials to use with students, including a one page text outlining the story as well as learning materials for new vocabulary, listening and reading comprehension quizzes and a journal writing exercise. 3. A full set of teachers notes and explanation on how to use the Keynote along with a contact e.mail for enquiries. This can be used on iPads or any other electronic device as a slide show or in a book reader. 2. The same PDF comic in black and white for easy printing. 3.
