Lesson 5 in my Life in Nazi Germany module for OCR History B from 2016. Students are shown an image of a book burning. Students need to identify what they think is happening. Students are then shown image representations of the different methods the Nazis used to try and co-ordinate the German people. They have to guess the methods. Students then plot and explain their views on an opinion line of how successful they think the Nazis will be in coordinating the German people. Students then work in mixed ability groups to create a poster about the different methods of coordination using information sheets. Includes methods such as book burnings, the Civil Service Act and the opening of Dachau concentration camp. Students can then either present their posters or rotate around the classroom in a carousel. Students complete a table as they look at the posters. Explaining the method and how it would help to turn the German people in to Nazis. Students revisit the opinion line periodically throughout the lesson. Lesson concludes with students explaining how the Nazis attempted to control society. A writing frame is also included for this task.

KS3 introductory lesson to Henry VIII and his personality

(0)
This is an introductory lesson to Henry VIII and his personality using Privy Council payments from November 1529. Students start by creating a spider diagram about Henry VIII. Students are then challenged to make points about their new teacher by using some information about items that the teacher has purchased in the last few weeks. (Examples are included on the powerpoint but are related to me so you will want to alter these.) Students are challenged to back their points with evidence. Once students have done this they are given a copy of the Privy Council payments from November 1529. This details a number of payments of Henry VIII. They need to make points about Henry and his personality using the payments sheets and then support with evidence from the payments sheet on a table. Students then use their tables to create a PEE paragraph about Henry VIII. Sentence starters have been included with the lesson. Students complete the lesson by adding new information to their spider diagram from the start of the lesson. I normally do this in a different coloured pen to show progress.

Lesson 2 for the OCR History B Life in Nazi Germany module. How did Hitler become Chancellor? Students are given a card sort timeline for an overview of events in Germany 1918-33. I HAVE NOT INCLUDED THIS AS IT IS A RESOURCE THAT WAS NOT CREATED BY ME. This can easily be created or found online. Students are then put in to mixed ability groups and given one of the key events from the period. The different events are The Treaty of Versailles, Hyperinflation, The Munich Putsch and the Great Depression. Included are information sheets that detail what happened during the event and how it helped the Nazis to gain power. Each group of students then creates a poster using only 10 words. The rest of the poster has to be made up of images, symbols, diagrams etc. The HA student is given the role of student teacher. When all posters are completed students rotate around the room and learn about the different events and how they helped the Nazis gain power from the student teachers. Students then make notes in their books. The lesson finishes with a class discussion about a graph displayed on the power point that shows election results between 24 and 33. Students discuss how the different events had an impact on the election results. Information sheets and the powerpoint are included. Information sheets were created by me.

In this lesson students gain an overview of life in the trenches. Students work in groups focused on one aspect of life in in the trenches. Each student has a different part of their aspect that they are responsible for. As a group students create an information poster to share with the class and they collate their information on a large A3 table. I then use this to form the base line of an extended project homework. A letter from the trenches.

An idea I gained from a teaching conference and made in to a resource for my students. The contents page links to the scheme of work and lessons from the OCR History B Nazi Germany module. Students number the pages of their exercise book and then complete the contents page either as they go or at the end of the module. Makes their exercise book a more accessible revision tool and allows you as their teacher to identify any work that students have missed.
