Recycling Posters for Whole School Sustainability Education

A series of four recycling posters to teach students how to sort their school rubbish. The posters represent landfill, paper and cardboard, soft plastics and mixed containers. Each poster contains images of rubbish students are likely to encounter in a primary school setting and a brief description of each kind of rubbish. The posters are specifically designed to be attached to school recycling bins to remind students how to sort their playground rubbish. Yet they can also be displayed in classrooms or around school as a part of a sustainability education program.

A Word file is provided so criteria can be changed for specific contexts and year levels. Print double-sided as there is room for teacher comments on the second page. Alternatively get students to use the rubric to self assess or peer assess.

This resource is a collection of Kindergarten/Foundation phonics worksheets to compliment an explicit phonics program. It is the third set available. It contains the graphemes ay, ea, ie, oe, ie, oe, or, oy, ow, air, ear, er and ur. The worksheets align with the phases of the UK Letters and Sounds sequence but compliment any phonics commercial or Early Stage 1 (or equivalent) program. They can be used as an independent activity after whole class instruction or as an independent literacy group activity. The worksheets contain a phonics, vocabulary, handwriting and writing component. Students need to be introduced to the graphemes and vocabulary containing the sound. They can then complete the worksheet by matching the vocab to the corresponding image and then write the word in the ‘word shape’ box. Students form the letters that represent the sound in a large ‘rainbow writing’ format and a smaller format on the lines provided. The final lines on the worksheet is space for students to use the vocabulary to write a sentence. The worksheets are differentiated. The extension worksheet does not contain a vocab box so students can independently spell . Students could also be extended by adding more words containing the sound around the ‘rainbow writing’word in the ‘word shape’ box. Students form the letters that represent the sound in a large ‘rainbow writing’ format and a smaller format on the lines provided. The final lines on the worksheet is space for students to use the vocabulary to write a sentence.

This resource is a 38-page Notebook to present the graphemes ai, ay, a_e, ee, ea, y, e, igh, ie, i_e, oa, oe, oi, oy, or, aw, ow, ou, ue, ew, u_e, ur, ir and er. It is appropriate for Term 4 Early Stage 1 or Stage 1. It supports Set 4a and 4b phonics worksheets by the same author. Firstly, the single grapheme for the sound is revised. Then new graphemes for the sound are introduced with a concurrent handwriting focus. Vocabulary for the graphemes is then presented. This vocab matches the worksheets. There is space for other words which contain the sound to be brainstormed and recorded. A screenshot of the corresponding worksheet is included to introduce the independent task.

This resource contains the 200 most frequently used words in English. The words are divided into 13 colour-coded levels. Use these levelled high frequency words as part of a Kindergarten or Year 1 literacy program. They can be sent home, one level at a time, as homework and tested weekly. Once the student has automatic recall of one level, they can move to the next. Use high frequency words in literacy groups. Students can write words on mini whiteboards or type on keyboards.
