UNDERSTANDING DURATION: Basic rhythm creator

A fantastic and flexible resource on one A4 sheet with an additional instruction sheet if needed. Students are required to create their own rhythms using the given symbols of note lengths and rests to support them as they learn to compose their own rhythmic ideas. This is purposefully missing a time signatures section to avoid confusion. Teachers can direct students on which time signatures to use as and when they teach them.

LEARNING RHYTHMIC PATTERNS - 1/2 BEATS POWER POINT (Little Kids Rock)

(0)
I have built this powerpoint using the 1/2 beat rhythms from ‘Little Kids Rock’. It is really great for engaging students with a mindful rhythm activity of counting, then counting and clapping, then clapping the rhythms. It builds confidence and knowledge in understanding how to use and create rhythms. It is even more enjoyable when used with a ‘style’ or pop music to help the tempo stay steady. I have inserted a simple guide to notation above the number of beats to introduce students to the concept of written notation. I highly recommend giving this a go with your key stage 2 and 3 classes.
