Converting Between Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions Scavenger Hunt

This scavenger hunt has students convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. During the scavenger hunt, students start at any poster and convert the question to the other form. Students then look around the room for their answer. Once they've found the answer they solve the question on that poster. If done correctly, they will end up back at the same poster. This is a great review or practice activity for students. It is self-checking so students can get immediate feedback about their performance, which they love! A murder mystery that requires students to use their knowledge of basic trigonometric functions to find the killer! Students will be led through 5 puzzles to find clues leading to the killer. Puzzles require students to use knowledge of finding unknown sides and angles using sine, cosine and tangent, solving word problems, converting radians to degrees and unit circles. After solving the 5 clues, only one suspect will be left. Need to change a puzzle for your specific class! It's easy to change any of the puzzles as long as the clue matches up! Answer key included!

This class project is sure to be a hit with any and all of your students! This bundle includes 3 projects in one. All the projects relate around the same idea. Students have been hired as consultants for the Baltimore Ravens, Real Madrid or Monsters University to solve some problems. Students must use the provided data to create a linear regression (line of best fit, least squares equation) in order to determine a correlation coefficient. Afterwards, students identify residuals for each piece of data. After collecting all the necessary information, students are led through questions related to the organization. When I did this in class I gave all three projects and let them choose. The choices were mixed and the students loved that they were able to individualize the days lesson depending on their interests. After students were finished each group received a reporting form. This is the form the "consultants" would hand their employer to summarize their findings. This was absolutely a hit in our class! If you don't want all three I will put each project up individually.

This 9 poster scavenger hunt requires students to analyze information related to the graphs of absolute value functions. Students are required to use knowledge of vertex, absolute minimum/maximum, intervals of increase/decrease, domain and range. Students are given a sheet with 9 questions. Each question has characteristics of a quadratic function graph. Students will search the posters to find the graph that matches all the characteristics on their paper. Students will then write the poster letter on their paper.

Our matching activities have been our biggest hit! This activity is requires students to match the system of equations with their graphs and solutions. There are 8 total sets; 4 systems requiring substitution and 4 using linear combination (elimination). Our students, as always, have greatly enjoyed this matching activity. We love matching because it requires students to take a large amount of data and identify characteristics, patterns and solutions.

A fantastic murder mystery to help your investigators practice their quadratic function skills. Students are given a scenario in which they will help investigators solve a murder. Five clues have been left behind to help them figure out the perp. Knowledge of solving quadratic functions, discriminant, substitution and word problems will all be necessary to catch the killer! This review is for exponential functions. Just like everyone else our new common core curriculum has changed things around. This review takes exponents a step further than the other one we've posted. The review includes multiplying exponents, dividing exponents, power of zero negative exponents, translations, rational and radical form and reflections of exponential functions. . A power point slide with directions on how to play the relay race game is attached. These directions are very common but you can play in whatever way you'd like. Also attached are questions to cut out and an answer sheet for each student.

This great activity is a self-checking loop of problems. This set is all to do with finding specific of cosine and sine of a given angle . Students choose to start with any question they'd like, determine the answer, and look for it around the room. Once they find the answer, they complete the question on that specific page. The questions are in a big loop so when the student returns back to their original page, they are finished. This is a fantastic way to have a self-checking review. Students know immediately if they did something wrong with their calculations. It also allows students to spread out and work at their own pace. Note: The answers specifically leave out the angles as to not give students the answers as they move around from problem to problem.

This scavenger hunt has students practicing adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. All answers are in fraction form. Students can start at whatever poster they want and work around to find the next answer. The whole activity is one giant loop, therefore, they will end up back where they started. Our scavenger hunts are a great way to get students practicing and self-checking. Students get the automatic feedback they need by either finding their answer was correct or not finding their answer on a poster and thus knowing they need to resolve.

You always knew your friendship with an eccentric scientist was interesting but you never thought it would lead to this! Your students will need to use their knowledge of linear functions in standard form,(mainly word problems), x and y-intercepts, literal equations and line of best fit in order to escape the past and end up back in present time. Each puzzle will require flexible thinking in order to determine the clue. Students will then find the next clue and work on the puzzle. There are 7 total puzzles in all. We've included some implementation and modification ideas pending on the size of your class and ability level. This does require work on the Teacher planning part but students love it! If a puzzle answer or clue doesn't work for your classroom, feel free to modify it! You can change one clue and still keep the integrity of the activity and lesson! The answer key is inherently included as it will need to the next clue!
