Empire lesson. Good for an introduction into Indian Empire.

This lesson teaches the skills required for the Narrative Question, paper 2. Students begin by looking at the mark scheme. In pairs they create a list of 3 top exam tips. They are then introduced to two Question 2 style exam questions. They work their way through a series of differentiated steps before writing up a response to one of the questions (the other can be set as a homework or as a starter for the next lesson). There are some sample responses that the students can mark and comment on (editable so that you can change depending on your groups ability range). Once they have done this there is opportunity for them to develop their answer before a bit of peer assessment. The lesson concludes with the students refining their exam tips set out in the starter activity. A structure strip and worksheet included. for the structure strip, I make the double-sided (cut out the literacy support and stick it to the back of the strip). A concise 6 page A4 revision and teaching guide for the crime, punishment and law enforcement historic environment unit (Whitechapel), Area of Study 5. This comes with key vocabulary, an overview of the period, info on law enforcement, quick fire revision tasks, a student assessment grid and exam question example and advice. Students look at a range of propaganda methods used in Nazi Germany. The first task analyses the various methods used by the Nazis. Students asses each method and thatch a heading/ title to this. There are also source based exam style questions, advice and support as well as a propaganda poster task which helps students to understand the methods used by Goebbels and what their intention was. The second lesson for Unit 1.1 (The situation on Elizabeth’s accession). This lesson looks at what was England like when Elizabeth came to the throne in 1558. Students organise features of England into given categories before completing analysis of the country and using the knowledge to complete a describe tow features of question. They finish by producing a comparison between England in 1558 and today.

Students assess the reasons for Soviet expansion into Eastern Europe, such as percentages deal. They rank factors, create an annotated graph before producing a map showing how the countries of Eastern Europe became Soviet satellite states., leading into an 8 mark (narrative exam question). Time travel Britain! Students learn about Christmas during two different eras; the medieval period and Christmas during the rule of Oliver Cromwell. These two booklets include a range of activities (that need minimal teacher intervention) such as a time travel activity, source analysis, writing up a report about Christmas in the period of study (a differentiated version included with sentence stems and a version without literacy support is included), a stamp making activity, a word search and a quick recap at the end where students change their time travels views based on what they now know. Each book will take the students a 60 minute lesson to work through (so enough material for two lessons here). Enjoy a stress free end of term lesson :-)

Students learn about the causes of the 1381 peasants revolt by working their way through categorising, prioritising and discussions before writing up their findings in a newspaper reporting activity.

A lesson that focuses on contextual information about the historic environment of Whitechapel in the East end of London. Students examine a range of problems faced by the police, such as immigration, the environment of Whitechapel, police issues, etc. After working through a card sort/ categorizing activity students need to rank problems and produce a table before writing up a report on the issues faced by the police (explain with examples the problems faced by the police in Whitechapel) . A homework mindmap activity reinforces the knowledge gained during the tasks. This lesson gives the students the background knowledge needed before moving onto the trickier source related questions.

An easy to follow lesson on Titanic. Students review pieces of evidence and categorise and organise this these into a diamond 9 (or score each piece of evidence) to determine who they think was to blame for the Titanic disaster. They follow this up with a report writing activity to explain their theory and also to offer suggestions on how future disasters might be avoided. The resources includes information sheets, a range of activities, such as mind mapping and analysing the reasons for reforms to the prison system in the 20th century.

A booklet containing a range of activities about life in the trenches during World War One. The activities look at the kit a soldier had to carry, the problems faced on the Western Front (source analysis and creative thinking task), daily routine activity and a No Man's Land task. The final activity requires the students to use their knowledge to create a trench survival guide for new recruits.
