Most children will be familiar with the 2, 5, 10 times tables, so they can be challenged to use the grids to find the answers to missing numbers e.g 5 x … = 35. They can also move on to the 3, 4, 6, times tables. Daily practice, chanting and oral rehearsing is advocated for all children to be able to count forwards, backwards, in and out of order. The Day the Crayons Quit is a working at the expected standard reading text for Year 2. This guided reading unit is a wonderful text to use to engage reluctant readers. This reading unit is designed to support the new English Reading Framework. It is suitable for comprehension with looking, clue and thinking questions and encourages children to talk through their answers using a reciprocal approach. The resources have been designed for children to read a few letters at a time and answer literal and inference based questions. There are also other links such as poetry about crayons so that children can experience a range of genres and respond to them. Teachers can allow children to read letters written in the style of the book so there is a 'I quit' letter from the teacher for children to respond to. This work can help towards moderation and assessment purposes and evidence at the end of the year. The unit was taught over 3 weeks and includes visuals for additional activities such as predict what the crayons are saying in speech bubbles. Kindly leave a review and thank you for choosing this resource.

Year 2 Maths Measures - Reading scales in kg and grams.
First, the children have the opportunity to think about the different measures of unit required for different purposes, e.g. measuring height of door, amount of liquid in bath, the length of playground, weight of book etc.
They then focus on reading scales for mass and find out how to read scales accurately. Some children confuse the dial reading for mass with a clock and these misconceptions must be addressed.
There are opportunities for mastery and greater depth problems in these bundle of resources. Children are also required to use > < comparative arrows to show greater understanding of given weights.
Year 2 Writing Narrative
Where the Wild Things Are Film and Book Exemplar text to introduce children to narrative writing - called Voyage and Return. Both the film and book are used simultaneously to learn about the main character and write a narrative. An excellent powerpoint with more than 15 slides demonstrates how to write descriptive scenes from the story, a narrative, character traits, and a success ladder. The exemplar text meets the requirements of English New Curriculum objectives. Explicit reference has been made to grammatical features including varying sentence types, conjunctions, words with suffixes, and the use of common exception words. Teachers may use the text in the imitation stage, innovate to where the main character meets a new wild thing, and then invent their own voyage and return narrative. Year 2 History Great Fire of London
This is an initial lesson where pupils write their predictions and explain their thinking about the object, what material it’s made from and the purpose of its use
The emphasis is historical inquiry.
Using secondary sources and evidence to make predictions.
Research about the past to check answers
Pupils will have pictures related to the start of the fire to make predictions about what they are - these include;

Pupils will then have reference to the answers to find out if they are correct.
The lesson allows for writing opportunities that can be used for moderation purposes in English if you are in year 2 as well as evidence for historical enquiry and significant events from the past.
A fun lesson and most enjoyed by pupils.

Year 2 Telling the time to the hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Children are encouraged to understand what each hand on the clock represents. They move onto telling the time an hour later, hour before, half an later and half an hour before. They look at word problems related to time and work out for example which clock is showing the time one hour after 10.30. They tick the clock that is showing a time in between 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock (e.g a clock face showing 3:15). The work on here is suitable for children working at the expected standard in Maths for year 2. The word problems have challenges for all ability groups including questions to challenge children working at greater depth.
Year 2 tell the time by showing where the hour hand and the minutes hands. Children need to be confident in telling the time before they use this activity. They must understand that the hour hand is the small hand and the long hand is the minutes hand. The resource will enable them to count in fives around the clock and understand how to calculate for example 20 minutes past 9. A differentiated resource for all children to reach the expected standards (S) in maths for the new curriculum.
A set of different instructions for imitation, innovation and invention stages. There are examples of exemplar text with the grammar features to suit the new English Curriculum and meet the required standards for Working At Greater Depth. This unit is suited for Year 2 children. You will find visuals, Powerpoint and excel editable documents created at a high standard to meet all the needs of different learners. There are written instructions for making a jam sandwich, bread and cupcakes with supporting visuals that can be easily modified. There is opportunity for children to apply learnt skills to cross curricular writing e.g write instructions to complete a circuit. The instructions are relevant and purposeful to DT and science links with healthy eating, materials/electricity, designing and general cooking skills. The writing can be used for moderation of grammar skills in cross-curricular work.
Year 2 Guided Reading Comprehension- Information Text All About Foxes.
A detailed text all about foxes allows children to read at length for greater depth.
Children who are working at the expected have the text broken down into smaller chunks for easier accessibility.
This resource can be used in isolation as well as supporting material for the Fox unit by Margaret Wild- if its being taught in English.
The guided reading questioning included looking, inference, evaluative, and overall text questions. It is suitable for the New English curriculum and will suit teaching over 2 to 3 weeks or as extensive revision purposes leading up to SATs in year 2.
It is recommended that greater depth children move onto reading Fantastic Mr Fox after this unit is completed.
An additional Bats comprehension has been included for your use if you are teaching nocturnal animals.
Thank you for choosing this resource and I hope you find it valuable.
This is a word document all about general garden snails. It includes many subheadings including why are snails pests? Life cycles? How does it eat? Why are they in danger? Pond Snails. What is the largest African Snail? This information text is suitable for research purposes in science to answer questions that have been generated by the children. It can also support writing own information about an other animals such as owls because children apply the skills of features they have learnt.
Greater Depth Maths - Year 2 TAF objective-
Determine remainders using known facts.
This is a greater depth standard, however, the objective has been differentiated so that all the class can access it at their level using visual and scaffolds.
HA use known facts to solve remainders
MA use multiplication facts of 2x table and division facts
LA and SEN use numicon to solve how many 2 numicon can fit into a shape.
The children master the objective by demonstrating reasoning and using known facts.
2x 7 = 14 and 2 x 8 = 16 (this is too high because I don’t have 16 socks).
So the closest number of pairs is 7.
15 divided by 2 = 7 remainder 1
Suitable for the new maths curriculum. A necessary objective to meet the standards for greater depth and useful to consolidate multiplication and division for working at children. I hope you find it useful. Thank you for choosing this resource
Solving problems with addition to show application of skills.
This is a differentiated resources to for children practice adding in different order.
They will understand how to apply the skills they have learnt e.g. adding in any order and addition is commutative.
Adding three numbers using bonds.
Finding different possible answers.
Thinking of own problems for a friend.
They learn how to be resilient with maths, work in pairs or teams and think about problems and solutions. They understand that there is more than one possible answer and begin taking risks.
A great application resources for maths to develop understanding of number.
Suitable for the new Maths curriculum 2018.
