A worksheet of associating certain instruments with heroes or villains. It doesn't contain any links to tracks but you can use certain film and TV theme tunes to use for associations. For example, Double Bass - Jaws - Villain. Trumpet - Indiana Jones - Hero. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Used as a plenary for a short performing styles unit based on Blues, Reggae and Acoustic music. Students work out the style of music from the description, for example, this music originated from the Carribean - Reggae. Can be used to tack on other styles of music to edit it into a bigger scale activity for KS4. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

Print outs of the bass guitar fretboard for students to use when learning how to play the bass guitar. Useful for class band lessons - students can read the layout to work out which notes they need and evaluate which notes sound 'better'; higher pitch or lower pitch.

Useful to have an electronic version of the glossary - handy to use to cut out, have pupils work in groups to work out which words they recognise/can match up with other definitions or can be used to associate key terms with Areas of Study pieces. It saves someone else typing it up, hopefully!

A useful start for Year 8 (and even Year 7) pupils into Classical music. The task is a comprehension with the document - students answer questions based on picking out information from within the comprehension. Pupils then summarise information from the questions to come up with 5 most important points about the Classical era. This is a document I'd re-worded from Wikipedia, adding and omitting bits where I saw fit. There are all kinds of things that can be added on such as more about instrument inventions, more composers, pieces of music etc. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

A basic 'How to..' guide for GarageBand. I have used this with Year 7-9 students and it works as well with all groups. Any feedback, please let me know.

This includes: what the students are required to do, how to achieve top marks for developing/exploitation/structure, how to start various styles of composition and how to develop them. Example images of compositions provided, Shoenberg chord chart for working out what appropriate chords to use and Sibelius shortcuts.\n\nAny feedback on what can be added would be great, this is a working document and has been for a few months!

An open task for KS3 - Year 7 task or Year 9 revision. Feel free to cater it to the needs of your class, there are lots of other key terms that can be added and lots of other tasks that can branch off from this.

Useful for a quick plenary or even as a starter to get pupils thinking about numbers relating to Blues music but they have to work out if the next answer is higher or lower than the previous. Starter/plenary questions based on half of the set works - Indian/African/Celtic and Reich/Schoenberg/Bernstein. Can be used to cut out and stick on card for revision of the set work or a revision of a starting lesson on the set work.

Useful for a starter from a previous lesson for chords - multiple choice of: what letters make a C chord, for example, what is a major/minor chord, what do they sound like ('happy' or 'sad' - feel free to use better descriptions!) leading into the chords they'll need for today's lesson for a class band song, which is only one chord away from an Axis of Awesome 4 chord song! Useful for a starter for orchestral lessons. Wordsearches can be created easily at the website mentioned at the bottom of the wordsearch.

Chords and lyrics for I'm Yours by Jason Mraz. Useful for KS3 classes, building up a band, adding in guitars, bass guitars, drums, glockenspiels, singers, backing singers, percussion etc. Also, useful for KS4 students who can play around with it and put it into different styles of music and use as a medley with Price Tag etc. (Check out Axis of Awesome on Youtube!!)
