Here are all my resources for guiding LPA/MPA through Romeo and Juliet. Focus is on AO2 (both language and structure) and integrating relevant AO3 comments on context into essays.

These revision activities are tailored to Anita and Me, Power and Conflict and Unseen poetry, but can easily be adapted for other texts. Here is a couple of unseen poetry exam questions aimed at HPA students.

This PowerPoint contains a variety of revision activities for AQA poetry. There is an important retention quiz on the contextual information for each of the names poems in the Power and Conflict section too.

This lesson uses the extract from The Reluctant Fundamentalist from the AQA extract booklet. There are a series of questions and guidance in the style of English Language Paper 1. This lesson allows you to explore the context of the text and open up interesting discussion also.

I used this PowerPoint to guide teaching of Romeo and Juliet to LPA/MPA students. This covers the whole play and addresses the AOs on the AQA exam.

I used this resource with HPA students to support their approach to the exam. There are a list of exam questions for them to begin working with in class/at home too.

Here is a list of quotations to support memory learning for The Merchant of Venice. These can be used as part of your teaching in order to support the exploration of these quotes, applying them to different questions and consolidating them to memory.

This lesson focuses on accessing chapter 4 of Lord of the Flies at a high level. Students will explore this chapter in lots of depth for students to apply key ideas and themes that emerge/develop in this chapter to almost any exam response.

This lesson focuses on exploring the Biblical parallels in Lord of the Flies. This encourages a more thoughtful response to the text and a way in to accessing AO3 by integrating contextual information into a written exploration of the text. I used this with HPA students and they got a lot out of it and their AO3 was much more integrated thereafter.

This resource models how to upgrade basic points to a more academic style/tone. The model uses Lord of the Flies. Students should spend time spotting the difference between the first and second paragraph and what makes the second one sound more impressive. They should then apply what they find to upgrading the ‘An Inspector Calls’ paragraph at the bottom. Encourage crafting/re-drafting.

This resource focuses on how to maximise marks for AO2 on the Literature, Modern Texts question. Students can often forget to do this in their haste under timed conditions so this resource helps to re-focus students on the importance of this Assessment Objective. I used this with my HPA learners and found that it really supported their exam analysis.
