This is a lesson that I taught to a top set year 9 class and was rated outstanding. It could easily be used for Y11 as it is very challenging! The lesson focuses on Romeo's soliloquy and introduces students to astrological theories in order to analyse language more fully. They are encouraged to make links to the rest of the play throughout. The lesson is differentiated by splitting students into pathways for the main activity and providing a modern translation of the soliloquy. There are also notes for teachers to suggest routes of questioning to encourage students to extend their thinking. A lesson on War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy designed to fit the new AQA Power and Conflict cluster. The lesson can be used to encourage independent analysis or to guide the students through the poem (there is support either way) and leads to a question that asks students to analyse Duffy's use of language.

A lesson that focuses on Ignorance and Want (Stave 3 of A Christmas Carol) The lesson includes an interleaved 10-question starter (P&C Poetry, ACC), Stretch and Never Finished questions, a differentiated main activity (supported analysis and critical theory) and checklists for successful writing. This lesson was delivered to a top set Y10 class for a PM observation as was graded a 1 - comprehensive and ready to teach.

An active lesson that encourages students to make predictions about the content of the scene by looking closely at language before reading Lady Macbeth's soliloquy. They will answer the question: how does Lady Macbeth revel her ambition in Act 1 Scene 5? Fully differentiated for higher and lower ability students.

A fully differentiated lesson on Robert Browning's The Laboratory with lesson objectives and new GCSE assessment criteria. Students are encouraged to make inferences or engage with the story of the poem at the start of the lesson and then work through it in order to answer a question based on gender representation. All resources are included: images, LA starter, writing frame, differentiated copies of the poem.

A descriptive writing lesson taught to a very bright year 7 class but could be easily adapted for all year groups. The lesson includes a three-way differentiated reading activity as a springboard for students to write their own descriptive piece to create tension. Success criteria, redrafting opportunities and musical chair peer assessment all feature in this lesson which was graded outstanding in a recent observation. A four lesson sequence on A Christmas Carol's Stave One. These lessons are designed to be taught to students who have already studied the novel in preparation for their exam and include class reading, focus questions, language analysis, mock exam and mark scheme. Fully differentiated with lots of stretch and support, these lessons are also a good starting point for the first teaching of the novel. Later weeks to be added as planned.

A display that provides students with the language and ideas to anaylse quotations. Colour coded to break the verbs into categories.

A lesson that looks at the use of stage directions in the opening of the play - best used on a second read or recap so that the students can start linking the quotations that they know to the characters’ placement on the stage. Includes an interleaved multiple choice quiz, Key words in context, differentiation and success criteria for the writing task.

A high-level and detailed lesson on Bayonet Charge. Students are encouraged to look at language and structure before moving on to an extended, analytical paragraph. Fully differentiated with structure strips to help facilitate extended responses, an exemplar response and a live students response that was taken when this lesson was taught for further analysis.

A comprehensive cover sheet that can be laminated for use again and again! 25 activities that can be used by any year group in any subject that uses knowledge organisers. Title, LO and clear instructions included - mixture of standard, stretch and super stretch tasks. Takes away the need for sick teachers to set cover work, encourages independence, allows choice.

A sequence of four lessons that were designed to help with the transition period for year 7. The unit starts with an imaginary plane crash on a deserted island and students are encouraged to work in groups in order to establish their society. All lessons are fully differentiated with learning objectives, support and stretch on most slides and an extra stretch question on most slides. The scheme refers to extracts from Robinson Crusoe and Lord of the Flies and deals with some quite challenging ideas as well as quite challenging texts. All reading materials and resources are included.
