Diana Boulay is an assemblage artist who has been using found plastic cast-offs to create artworks for many years. She finds the materials, washes them and stores them by colour. Inspired by Diana Boulay, the students will learn to create a found object value sculpture.

Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and
sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is known for portraits in a modern style, characterised with stretched-out, long faces, necks
and figures. Students will learn to draw portraiture in a realistic and distorted proportion.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter who created imaginative portraits entirely out of found objects such as flowers, fruits, & vegetables. The students are to collect found materials to create portraits. They can use anything at their disposal.

Ellsworth Kelly used gestural lines to create abstract drawings of plants and flowers. He created contour line drawing that reduced nature to it’s most simple form. The students will learn about different kinds of line in Art and appropriate Ellsworth Kelly by drawing plants using his simplistic style.

Claude Monet was a famous French painter and one of the founders of the Impressionism movement.
Just as Claude Monet did, the students are to draw or paint one subject matter within their garden during different times of the day. This can include a plant, chair, pond or tree. The learners can do this task over a few days. Differences in weather will give them differences in light, colour & the final artworks.

This portrait proportion lesson inspired by the work of Amedeo Modigliani can be completed with whatever drawing materials students have at home. This includes pencils, paint, crayons or the lesson could even be collaged using old magazines.
The lesson includes a worksheet, video, artist narrative, learning about portrait & artwork proportions, step by step instructions & possible final outcome.
