  • New compact print format is a return to the single publication of 105 years ago
  • Making it easier for teachers to access industry content on any platform
  • Additional professional advice and information service for school leaders

TES, the world’s largest online network of teachers, today reveals a new compact format for its print publication in the UK, in a return to the single publication it used when it launched 105 years ago.

Alongside this, TES is launching a new leadership subscription service, showing how the former trade magazine has transformed into a digital professional services provider built around its continuing legacy of high-quality, sector-leading journalism. The new leadership subscription service provides a number of copies of the magazine for distribution to staff and governing bodies, as well as a weekly email leadership briefing, white papers and webinars on issues schools are grappling with. In addition, TES has convened a forum of experts to answer trick questions on topics such as finance, law, HR, pensions, estates, risk management and strategic planning.

This is the latest in a long heritage of innovation for TES. The new compact print edition opens today with a quote from original Times Educational Supplement at launch in 1910, to remind readers that, though the magazine may have been through many iterations over the years, it has never lost its editorial independence or its passion for breaking news.

Ann Mroz, editor of TES writes, “This week, there is a transformation to a more compact format. What is not changing, however, is what we stand for and who we represent. TES is proudly politically neutral. We support no political party and have no political agenda. We aim to hold the government of the day to account, whatever its hue.

“TES will continue to be a broad church, reporting on a range of education issues and representing the views of all those working in or with schools, agnostic of structures and sectors.”

TES is also increasing support for classroom teachers by moving away from the concept of traditional subscriptions to membership. From today, TES Membership+ cards will be distributed to all subscribers. Additional benefits will be rolled out including access to the TES archive, discounts on selected TES courses, weekly register emails and the development of a catalogue of external partners to support teachers’ professional development.

TES was one of the first media titles to recognise the opportunity afforded by the social internet. In 2008, it launched TES Connect, described as “the world's largest social network for a single profession.” At that time, TES Connect had half a million users. Today TES boasts 7.6 million registered users worldwide, who in addition to reading the magazine in print, online or via an app, download up to a million classroom resources per day, created by other teachers.
