Religion Peace and conflict- Holy war- GCSE AQA- 9-1

Religion Peace and conflict- Holy war- GCSE AQA- 9-1

Students evaluate if whether religion is a cause for war and violence. They will learn historical examples of religious war as well as recent examples of this. The case study about Charlie Hebdo ties in with the Islamic principles of a just war. Students explore the idea of the attack being disproportionate which sparks an interesting debate. My students spoke quite passionately about how wrong the attack was and what could have been done instead.

Students are given opportunities to reflect on the requirements of the Religious Studies GCSE (Christianity Beliefs and Teachings) and think about how they can guide other students to be successful. The resource also includes a knowledge organiser of the complete Beliefs and Teachings of Christianity which can be used to refer to throughout the lesson when making the revision board games.
