#### Transforming graphs of a function/ Plotting transformations with Desmos/ GeoGebra

L/O: To plot and then comment on transformations of a function. Worksheet activity where students type in basic function f(x)=x squared into Desmos or GeoGebra and then do various transformations of this function. Students plot and draw what happens on the graphs and make a comment about what they find. Comment sections are scaffolded to guide pupils in describing the transformation. The worksheet is 4 sides of A4, with a gradual increase in difficulty. I have used this with high ability year 7 and 8 classes, plus high and middle ability year 9, 10 and 11 classes. Transforming function graphs (translations and reflections of non-trigonometric graphs) is grade 7 on the new GCSE 9-1 scale. As an unprotected Word document you can edit it as required.

#### Calculus: Optimisation

The presentation begins with a review of quadratics and presents students with an optimisation question which they are expected to solve using quadratics. The concept of optimisation is then explored in more detail by asking students to find the maximum volume that can be made from a 12cm x 12cm square (in the context of for instance minimising production costs). This site provides a useful platform through which to launch into a discussion about finding the maximum volume. There are then a selection of questions which I printed out and placed around the room for students to tackle, in pairs. For the plenary, the students are presented with a similar (but note not identical) problem to the one at the start of the lesson and are asked to solve using calculus before checking their answer using quadratics. Please Review

#### Challenge Problems Worksheets 2

Subject: Calculus, Geometry, Algebra 2 Grade Levels: 10th, 11th, 12th, Higher Education, Adult Education, Homeschool Resource Type: Worksheets (6 pages), appropriate for an impromptu quiz This the second worksheet in the Challenge Problems series. Taken from Arithmetic through Calculus, these problems require not only an understanding of the basic concepts but, often, a bit of imagination. Any formula or definition (within reason) that is required to solve the problems will be given, all that the student has to supply is imagination and a little elbow grease. Each problem set is accompanied by a detailed set of solutions for each problem (sometimes more than one).

#### Algebra: Integration 3 - Area Problems (+ worksheet)

This is the third lesson that I teach on integration and follows on from the second lesson beginning to look at using integration to solve area questions. This lesson looks at area problems and more complex examples that are the type of questions that get asked in exams. 17 slides + a great practise worksheet with answers. The lesson includes: Starter - a quick question on integrating with bounds to focus students on integrating skills again Learning Objectives - differentiated by outcome Key Notation - explanation and detail given as this is often an area of confusion Teaching slides showing the process and some of the problems that come with area problems. How to find the bounds and issues when questions do not involve an area bound by the x-axis. It comes with several excellent examples and teaching slides. AFL questions and activities for students to check understanding An excellent worksheet with ANSWERS. Plenary - a quick review and feedback on learning during the lesson before going further into more areas of integration. NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium lessons and as always please RATE and FEEDBACK, thank you!

#### Algebra: Integration 1 - An Introduction (+ resources)

This is one of my favourite lessons to teach and the activity is one of the reasons. This is a whole lesson introducing the topic of integration. 25 slides. The lesson includes: Starter - a quick question on differentiation to get the brain working and to remind students the process of differentiation Learning Objectives - differentitated by outcome Key Words and Notation - a lot of explanation and detail given as this is often an area of confusion Teaching slides showing the process of differentiation and how integration is the opposite (often print these of as handouts for pupils. Teaching slides on +C making it really clear what it is and its importance Several superb and very clear teaching examples AFL activity for students to check understanding An excellent and really challenging matching activity. This comes with an accompanying handout on index rules as this is half the key battle. Includes ANSWERS. Added a fair simpler worksheet for the less able or to set for homework as practise. Plenary - a quick review and feedback on learning during the lesson before going further into more complex integration. Last time I taught this we ended up doing two lessons before moving on from the feedback as pupils were not confident enough on the basic skills NOT of integration but index rules. One of my responses was to to develop the handout with rules for support and guidance. NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium lessons and as always please RATE and FEEDBACK, thank you!
