Positive Postcards

Positive Postcards

The two images can be printed back to back in colour on white card. The front of the positive postcard shows a superhero holding up a rainbow with the words ‘Power of Positivity’. The writing side of the postcard includes a positive poem to encourage children to believe in themselves and boost their confidence. There is space to write a short message as well as an address which can be sent home or it could be the class name and school address. I used these for several purposes: Improve mental health and well-being. Engage children with behaviour problems catching them doing something postive. As a reward system. Given to children who have low self-esteem and confidence. If used in the class room rather than sent home, I would leave it in the child’s place at the end of the day so it was a surprise for them in the morning. Please note: The cover image only shows part of the postive postcard logo.

KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreographic Devices and Intent within the Anthology

KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreographic Devices and Intent within the Anthology

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreographic devices and choreographic intent within the anthology, in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint sit pupils in their groups and give them the QR code for their anthology set work for them to watch (on their phones or on iPads) and write notes about the choreographic devices that they see. Discuss with each group how the choreographic devices relates to the choreographic intent of the piece. After the discussion, give each group their exam question handout and allow pupils to answer the 2 questions (using their notes to help them).

KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreography

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreography in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint give each group one of the texts as a stimulus. As a group, pupils can discuss how the text can be used to create choreography in relation to each of the questions on the PowerPoint (I allowed around 3 min per slide). Encourage pupils to write notes on the sheet with the text on as these can be used as posters in the classroom and/or be photocopied and given to all students for further revision. After pupils have completed notes for each of the questions, give pupils a copy of the questions as a mock test and allow pupils 20 min to complete the test using their text as their stimulus. Within this resource I have included the notes that my pupils made as an example.

KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Section C

KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Section C This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising the dance anthology in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). Each group should be given a large piece of paper with one of the 6 dance anthology pieces written in the middle, then use the PowerPoint. I spent approximately 5 min per slide and got the pupils to rotate around the room rather than the paper. You will need the six anthology fact files found on the AQA GCSE Dance website for the latter part of the lesson. Once the lesson is complete you will have revision display posters created by the dance pupils themselves.

KS3 Dance ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW delivery PowerPoint

KS3 Dance ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW delivery PowerPoint

This ‘Hairspray’ 6 lesson SOW and delivery PowerPoint is for teachers teaching dance at KS3. In the school where I teach, every year we have a Year 9 musical (this year was Hairspray) and all the Year 8 pupils watch during a matinee performance. This SOW has been created for my Year 8 pupils after they have watched our Year 9 performance of Hairspray. The delivery PowerPoint includes questions which refer to the performance that they have watched and the whole point of the SOW is for them to learn the finale dance ‘You can’t Stop the Beat’. You may be thinking, ‘What am I going to do with this resource?’. Well, you’re going to need to adapt it to suit you yes but it will work in a variety of ways. First of all, it can be used as a tutorial of how to turn a series of rehearsals into a series of lessons (learning other key dance skills and terminology in the process). You could use It as a guide to create your own SOW for whatever musical your school has just put on or simply show a YouTube clip of a live performance of ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’. We haven’t chosen next years musical yet but I will be using this SOL and will adapt it to fit. The delivery PowerPoint includes starters in the form of ‘bell activities’/‘talking points’ for each lesson, homework and assessment activities at week 3 and week 6 to record progress.

You are what you eat! Learn about healthy eating habits.

This beautifully illustrated book and the song that accompanies it were originally written for my ESL programme about agriculture & farming. The text serves as a great base for teaching kids about healthy eating habits, looking after ourselves and making choices that help our communities and our environment. A great base for any project which asks kids to reflect on what we eat and where it comes from. Illustrations by Maria Tarrago and design by Eva Morell.
