Speedometer calibration

Speedometer calibration

Bicycle speedometers can only provide accurate readings if they have been calibrated correctly. Percentage error calculations can determine how accurate the speedometer is. An engaging starter activity in which students will test the accuracy of a bicycle speedometer from various readings. For the full resource please visit the IET Faraday website at: https://faraday-secondary.theiet.org/resource-pages/speedometer-calibration/

Analysing motor race performance

Analysing motor race performance

Modern data analysis techniques can be used to provide ongoing performance analysis of the vehicles in a motor race. However, even the most sophisticated of data analysis systems will only tell part of the story, they will often identify an issue, but will rarely provide a solution unless it is relatively simple. Additional expert input is normally required to interpret data and find solutions to problems. An engaging starter activity in which students will use data from one lap of a motor race to answer a series of questions. Key Stage 2 CHRISTMAS NUMERACY BUNDLE

Key Stage 2 CHRISTMAS NUMERACY BUNDLE

This giant bundle of resources is everything a teacher needs in the busy Christmas period. There are a range of numeracy tasks to suit all abilities. Data Collection and Handling - Social Media

Data Collection and Handling - Social Media

End of topic activity for Data Collection and Handling. Designed for a top set S1 (Scotland). Activity that involves designing a survey, considering the demographic that will be surveyed, and then displaying the data in a variety of formats after the survey has been completed. Extension tasks consider the effects of asking more people, or asking people of a different demographic.

CHRISTMAS 2D SHAPE - DATA PROCESSING/GATHERING

CHRISTMAS 2D SHAPE - DATA PROCESSING/GATHERING

CHRISTMAS 2D SHAPE DATA These resources have been produced to encourage pupils to recognise, locate and process a range of 2D shapes and then categorise these shapes into clear data – including TALLY CHARTS, BAR GRAPHS, CARROLL diagrams and VENN diagrams. This way of information gathering shows pupils how a range of data can be displayed. There are two sets of differentiated Data resources to process – Red Roof and Baubles. There is also a third set – Tree that requires pupils to label the charts before they enter the data. This resource is suitable for KS 2 children who are processing a range of data and have knowledge of a range of 2D shapes.

Mean average - including problem solving and applying knowledge to different scenarios

Mean average - including problem solving and applying knowledge to different scenarios

Really super worksheets on mean average that I used recently for an NQT observation and went down really well with SLT. Students will need some introduction onto what the mean average is first. I started with the mean average worksheet, and then extended with the problem solving questions worksheet. Further extension onto average speed allows faster paced students to continue with applying the knowledge while others are working on the rest of the sheet. Please leave me a review and keep me motivated! Yours faithfully, A tired NQT

Measuring skills and data collection and presentation

Measuring skills and data collection and presentation

10 Files for the teaching of measuring skills and data collection and presentation. Suitable for Year 4-5 but can easily be adapted to suit a more / less able group or different age group. Includes: 1. Measuring mass - encourages estimation of mass before measuring, a tricky but worthwhile for younger children. More able can convert between units. 2. Measuring volume / capacity - designed for measuring cylinders but can be adapted to suit available equipment. Includes activities to both read scales and fill containers to a given volume. 3. Measuring length - choosing suitable measuring equipment and accurate measuring. Extension sheet to introduce mixed units and conversion. For data collection and presentation: 1. Shoe size - simple tally chart of shoe sizes in the class and bar chart for presentation. 2. Pencil case classification - sorting objects into material properties - tally and bar chart. Will create interesting opportunities for group work, discussion and feedback. 3. Tennis ball - 2 Investigations into number of bounces from different heights and on different surfaces. Will reinforce skills learnt in measuring work. Tally chart and bar chart. Can be adapted to introduce the concept of averages to a more able group if required. 4. Variation (2 files)- collection of data - eye colour / height / hair colour / rolling tongue from the class and presenting bar chart. Can be used as an introduction to work on continuous and discontinuous variation.
