Year 4 Mastery Maths - Reasoning - Interpret data shown in a range of graphs

Year 4 Mastery Maths - Reasoning - Interpret data shown in a range of graphs

This was so useful in showing the class a range of different graphs for the same data, and in improving their reasoning ability on what each graph shows. Correct reasoning is modelled in the task and the students then went on create their own, using mastery level reasoning skills. Superb for sparking discussion. In both powerpoint (editable) and pdf format

Averages from ungrouped frequency tables multiple representations card sort

Averages from ungrouped frequency tables multiple representations card sort

A similar activity to the one I produced for grouped frequency tables, but simpler and shorter as its for ungrouped tables. There are only 3 representations this time, the tables, listed data and averages with some cards left blank for learners to fill in. Aims to build understanding of frequency tables and how they can be quickly used to calculate averages - and the key ink to the listed data. Would fit nicely into a single lesson. Answers included.

The Maths twenty twenty Cricket Challenge

The Maths twenty twenty Cricket Challenge

Presentation developed in response to a group of non responsive students who had an interest in cricket. After an initial introduction the presentation was uploaded to individual workstations and pupils were set a number of mathematical investigation tasks based on the result of a 20 : 20 cricket match. Pupils worked individually and in small groups with minimal supervision over a number of lessons and used the activity to springboard their own investigations. There are a number (10) of set tasks at the end of the presentation that required pupils to use a range of mathematical skills. The presentation contains 45 slides. Click on the umpire to launch the presentation.
