This is a reading text with Harry Potter describing his school. Particular mention is made of the subjects, and he gives reasons for (dis)liking them. Mention is also made of the school building, and his timetable. A dictionary would probably be required for this work.

School Subjects in German - A Complete Guide.

School Subjects in German - A Complete Guide.

This resource introduces 15 school subjects with many practice activities. It introduces questions and answers about likes and dislikes as well as opinions/ reasons. It goes on to introduce talking about favourite subjects. There are pair work speaking activities, reading activities and writing activities. The reading activities include texts with richtig/falsch exercises as well as activities with open-ended questions. There is a school timetable that pupils could replicate and questions to answer about the timetable they see. Answers for all activities appear on the PowerPoint. By the end of the PowerPoint (68 slides) pupils will be able to write a paragraph about their school subjects (likes/dislikes, opinions and so on), either by using a given German template or by only English prompts. There is a lengthy worksheet, which accompanies the activities on the PowerPoint and a separate word search document.

Meine Stundeplan

Meine Stundeplan

A resource used alongside Echo Express 1 to teach Chapter 2 (School). I used this with year 7, but it could equally be used with year 8 if they had just started German.

End of term puzzle Stimmt 1 unit 4 Schule ist Klasse

End of term puzzle Stimmt 1 unit 4 Schule ist Klasse

This is a tarsia puzzle to practise vocab from chapter 4 in Stimmt 1 (school). A tarsia consists of puzzle pieces that the students cut out and then match words to form a certain shape (ideally students don’t know what shape that is). They will quickly realise their mistakes if the puzzle won’t fit together. Great activity for Friday afternoons, cover lessons or end of term. This download includes: sheets for students with jumbled up puzzle pieces, an answer sheet for the teacher in list form and one showing the shape. If the print quality of the powerpoint is not good enough, use the attached pdf version.

Quiz Quiz Trade Speaking Cards to practice Digital Time

Quiz Quiz Trade Speaking Cards to practice Digital Time

A class set of Quiz Quiz Trade cards to practise digital time in German. How Quiz Quiz Trade works: Every student gets a card. They get up and find a partner. They then 'quiz' their partner by reading out an English sentence for them to translate. Once both partners have done a translation, they swap cards and find another partner. The answer is on the cards so students can check that they are right. I like to give students a certain amount of time and for them to see how many conversations they can have in that time.
