9 x table investigations

9 x table investigations

Here I have a Notebook to accompany three 9 times table investigations. The investigations gets progressively harder and therefore can be done as three separate lessons (which is what I did with Year 4) or as three differentiated tasks. These investigations allowed children to familiarise themselves with multiples of 9 whilst exploring. Outstanding observation lesson.

Dividing on a numberline GOLF.

Dividing on a numberline GOLF.

This is a great way for children to learn how to divide on a numberline through playing golf. The Notebook explains the story of a poor golfer who keeps taking too many shots to get his ball in the hole so the class must help him take fewer shots so he can stay in the competition. For their main challenge children can choose which score card they use to play their own golf. Challenge 1 - dividing by 3 and 6 Challenge 2 - dividing by 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Challenge 3 - as above but with larger numbers. Children love competing against each other to play their round of golf in the least amount of shots as possible. This lesson can easily be stretched to two lessons. Reasoning questions also included on Notebook as well as on their score card. Documents easily adaptable to make the numbers more challenging/easier.

Can I use factor pairs. Multiples of 6, 7, 9.

Can I use factor pairs. Multiples of 6, 7, 9.

This is a Notebook which includes some reasoning hinge questions as well as a description of each game. Included are the three differentiated challenges that children can choose. There are three challenges; Challenge 1 - multiples of 6 Challenge 2 - multiples of 6 and 9 Challenge 3 - multiples of 6, 7, 9. The challenges allow children to play 1:1 and work tactically to get three numbers in a row. The rules are very clear. For challenge 2 and 3 I've also included a prime number to allow for a discussion at the end of the lesson. My kids love this game and we play it regularly so it's best to print double-sided and laminate so you can use over and over again.
