Congruent Shapes KS2/KS3

Lesson for identifying congruent shapes and learning the meaning of congruence. Aimed at lower ability groups or KS2. Conditions for Congruence sheets used as memory tasks in groups of 4. 1 of the team comes up for each different sheet and has 30 seconds to remember the information and take it back to their team.

Perimeter And Area In The School Yard

During this lesson students investigate, estimate, identify and classify shapes in the outdoors. They explore how formulas can be used to calculate area and perimeter and make use of them to calculate these measurements for shapes they have observed. This lesson is designed to be taught outside. By spending time outdoors and connecting to nature, students are more likely to care for and conserve nature as adults.

GCSE 9-1 MATHS 3D SHAPES / SECTORS / PROBLEM SOLVING Higher revision A3 sheets(with answers)

I have gone through all the NEW edexcel papers including the Mock Sets and collated questions from the same topic and presented these on A3 sheets for easy revision have answers for easy checking. (I promise this will save you a lot of time - as this took me hours!!)

Shapes

This SMART Notebook file explains how to categorise 2D and 3D shapes as well as how to calculate the area and perimeter of shapes. Finding lines of symmetry and drawing reflections is also included in this file. ClassLab activities help pupils to consolidate their understanding about how to sort 2D and 3D shapes as well as drag and drop activity.

Outside With Perimeter Area And Volume

During this lesson students investigate, measure and use formulas outdoors in preparation for furthering their understanding in the topic of geometry. They apply their understanding of perimeter, area and volume to real world situations by looking for and recording a range of shapes around their school. Students will develop communication skills as they justify answers and reflect on the topic. This lesson is designed to be taught outside. By spending time outdoors and connecting to nature, students are more likely to care for and conserve nature as adults.

Angles In Trees

During this lesson students investigate, estimate, identify and classify angles in the outdoors in preparation for furthering their understanding of geometry. They apply their understanding of angles to the real world by identifying a range of angles in their local environment. Students will develop communication skills as they write instructions and provide feedback. This lesson is designed to be taught outside. By spending time outdoors and connecting to nature, students are more likely to care for and conserve nature as adults.

I wasn’t quite happy with what was out there so created these 3 files. One blank, one complete(potentially a knowledge organiser for quadrilaterals) and a third for a quick quiz. Bonus resource on Always, Sometimes, Never related to quadrilaterals.

2D shapes

This worksheet allows children to name a 2D shape and write down their properties next to it. The second sheet is for the MAP who can recognise that any shape that has 5 sides will be called a hexagon etc.

Shape terminology fill- in sheet

I think I originally devised this to accompany a PowerPoint presentation, though the presentation in question is the intellectual property of my workplace and not me. Anyway you might find it useful as an accompaniment to your lesson if you’re covering terms like congruent and similar. It’s designed to be kept handy for revision/ homework purposes.

Angles in polygons, including exterior and exterior; Angles within circles; Pictures, Videos and Worksheets

This is a bundle of 6 of my resources regarding angles! 5 documents are generators, which means at the click of any button you are able to generate a new worksheet. This provides a calm atmosphere in learning, familiarity in resources for students and can demonstrate progress over time. 3 of these documents are worksheet generators, which require students to find angles within polygons by viewing the polygons themselves. The easiest worksheet just regards triangles and straight lines. The medium worksheet involves quadrilaterals, simple algebra, and straight lines. Whereas the last worksheet involves a multitude of polygons. Each come with a supporting tab call a ‘cheat sheet’, containing an answer for every question listed on a separate bit of paper. These can be individually cut up and folded along the dotted line to act as supporting answers, You can use thesse at your discretion to support the least able, enabling these worksheets to be low access high challenge. Furthermore, another of these documents also requires you to find missing angles and lengths within various polygons by using algebra. Helpfully there is are hints which can either be included, or not included on the sheet, as they are on the sheet’s extremities so can easily can be cut off. Another worksheet regards angles, but this time they are entirely worded question. Testing students knowledge on exterior angles as well as interior angles this time. Finally the last document is a powerpoint involving 5 videos of me hand drawing different circle theorems. Each of the videos are silent but supported by questioning on the screen. This has proved to be a very useful tool in maximising student engagement, and getting the students to come up with the questions and answers themselves whilst watching the video, whilst you are able to help individuals or manage behaviour as required. Each of the videos, has futher suggestion points, and each can be paused and resumed at a pace that suits your class. Please review if you found useful :)

Angles in a Triangle within a Triangle, and Angles on a Straight Line; Worksheet Generator; Answers

Easy to use worksheet generator, involving students having to find angles within a larger triangles. Involving the knowlede of identifying triangles, finding the angles within invidual triangles, and angles on a straight line. This is a worksheet generator so and infinite number of questions can be generated from this one resource. Therefore, this is great as a settler activity over a number of lessons, as it’s general structure stays the same whilst the numbers change for each worksheet. Also, it can show progress over time, as students should get quicker and become more confident at answering these questions.

Interior Angles of Polygons within Polygons, including triangles, quadrilaterals and a hexagon

This is a worksheet generator which involves finding the angles within a hexagon, and all the shapes within this hexagon. At a click of a button you can regeneratre new questions. This worksheet also involves algebra to calculate angles, for examples some of the angles are defined as ‘h+?’, where ‘?’ is an integer. Translations and Coordinates - Year 4 Maths Planning and Resources

As above. Four lessons covering a range of fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills relating to Translations and Coordinates. These lessons focus upon teaching children to use a coordinates to grid to initially translate a point of a single quadrant grid and then 2d shapes. Also includes a lesson on forming polygons on a grid, using coordinates. Includes differentiated resources for all levels of ability and notebook files for modeling. Objectives: 1: To use coordinates on a grid to form polygons. (Problem Solving) 2: To describe the movement of points on a grid. (Fluency) 3: To translate shapes on a grid. (Fluency) 4. Coordinates Castle Picture (Plotting coordinates on a grid to create a castle)

Powerpoint and worksheet plotting coordinates on a grid (-10 to +10 axis). The picture builds up to create a castle image. Suitable for years 6 to 9 depending on ability. Once coloured in, this activity is great for making a classroom wall display. I have used this in years 7,8 and 9 they all enjoyed it, just allow more time for the younger ones to finish. Extension idea: Create your own image with coordinates on a blank grid for other pupils to try.

Exterior and Interior Angles within a Polygon, 6 worksheet tabs, Infinite Questions

This is a worksheet generator testing students’ knowlege on angles within a polygon. There are 6 different worksheet tabs testing on different areas, 5 test on unique questions, and the 6th worksheet tab randomly combines questions from all previous 5 tabs. There are an infinite number of questions, and corresponding answers available, as at the click of a macro button you can generatre a new worksheet.
