Aimed for year 4 children. Learning Objective: To find the area of rectilinear shapes by counting squares through problem solving. Two differentiated worksheets for HA/MA and LA - both worksheets have two exercises. The second exercise is harder where the squares are not given to the children and there are missing measurements (for HA/MA). All measurements are given to LA. I had taught this lesson and it went really well. First exercise children can stick in their books. Second exercise - children will need to draw out the rectilinear shapes. It can be modified and scaffolded to suit.

#### Triangles and real life problems (SMART Notebook file)

This file could be as a material for the whole geometry lesson in secondary grades. There are eight real problems which could be solved with using triangles (mainly right-angled). The most difficult part is to make the appropriate drawing and choose right formulas for calculations. Activity is made in "step by step" way: if the first challenge - to make the drawing - is too big, there are hints for it, and only then the solution and answer. For those colleagues, who do not use SMART Board and SMART Notebook, there is an opportunity to open the file in the website http://express.smarttech.com and use it.
