3D Similar Shapes Volume and Surface Area Extension Task

Students are asked to find the volume and surface area of the Brycian Solid. This shape is created from a cube, frustrum, hemisphere and a cone. The task involves two similar versions of the solid, with some measurements given for the small shape and some for the large one. Answers provided at the end of the presentation. The first slide details the problem with no pictures so that students have to work out what is going on.

This is a whole lesson looking at the second 4 rules of circle theorems. 27 slides. It has lots of little activities throughout for the pupils to engage with the different rules. It comes with a handout, which put the rules into 8. I know they could be put into less or more, however, I have found that 8 works the best. There is also a completed handout also attached with the rules filled in. The lesson has a starter, learning objectives, a lot of excellent teaching slides, MWB activites, a worksheet with ANSWERS, and plenary. Geometry: Construction - Constructing Triangles

This contains a whole lesson aimed at KS3 looking at constructing triangles using compass, ruler and protractor. This is NOT my longest PowerPoint as it takes time to get everybody happy with using a compass and constructing. However, it does contain a starter, very clear animated teachings slides, questions to attempt as well throughout, key words and learning objectives. This is a tricky topic to teach and I have found the examples as they are so visual very useful to explaining what the objectives are about. I often use a big compass and repeat the slides on a normal white board as well. This leads nicely in the topic of LOCI, which can also be found in my resources. This is the fifth in a 7 lesson series on different basic angle rules, which is designed for KS3, but I do use some of the lessons for weaker groups at KS4. Lesson 1 - Angles at a Point / Straight Line Lesson 2 - Angles in parallel lines Lesson 3 - Angles in triangles Lesson 4 - Interior and Exterior Angles (sum) Lesson 5 - Interior and Exterior Angles (regular polygons) Lesson 6 - Angle Problems Lesson 7 - Congruent and Similar Triangles I have found over the years, that teaching these lessons over more lessons than less pays dividends!! That it is often a subject skirted over quickly and has to be re taught year on year. It is often a subject that even at KS4, pupils struggle over. To address this each of the lessons is very thorough on the different rules, with activities, hand made worksheets that are differentiated with trickier examples with answers, exam questions, starters and plenaries. I have spent a long time over the years developing lessons to help pupils progress in this area. You can buy this as a BUNDLE, which I highly recommend as a series / sequence of lessons. This is the second of two lessons that I teach on tessellations. This is a topic done poorly in exams mainly, because students do NOT know what it is ... I have created two lessons designed for KS3 to address that. I don't know why teachers skip it, there are so many cross-curricular links especially with Art and above all... it is a fun lesson / topic. Pupils love it !
