These outstanding 5 star revision sheets are aimed at preparing students for the AQA 2017 examination on ‘A Christmas Carol’. With the closed book format in mind, the sheet contains the important quotations from Staves 1 to 5, a range of points to make about context (A03) and a range of AQA style exam questions to work on.
Starter: Students read the 42 quotations and work out which Stave they come from.
Main Activity: A3 revision sheet
Bronze: Identify what we learn about the character in each quotation (A01)
Silver: Identify the key words and language features in each quotation (A02)
Gold: Identify which theme each quotation links to (A01)
Diamond: Relate each quotation to a relevant point about context (A03)
There is a second revision sheet which groups quotations by staves and themes and contains examination questions and context linked to each theme.
There is also a quotation revision sheet containing detailed notes on 20 key quotations linked to A01, A02 and A03.
The worksheet contains over 100 key quotes from the novel in chapter order.
Students are asked to link each quotation with one of the main themes using a code.
Students found this to be a highly effective revision tool.
My attempt at producing a grade 9 full mark (or close to full mark response) to a question about how Macbeth’s fears are presented in the play. 2022.
The response is on the long side (1266) words. It has been written to try and meet the top band criteria for A01, A02 and A03.
Rather than starting with the extract, the response is chronological and charts the journey of Macbeth’s fears from being seemingly fearless at the start to forgetting the ‘taste of fears’ by the end of the play.
Also includes a planning timeline that charts Macbeth’s fears across the play.

Three writing frames to help low-ability students structure exam-style response to questions based on the themes of ambition and deception.
Students are provided with a very short extract and an exam-style question. I made the extracts shorter than normal to make it more accessible for the students.
The writing frame starts off each paragraph for the student. There is then space for the students to use their knowledge of the play to add further analysis of each quotation.
It has been designed to fit onto A4 sheets for ease of printing. For some students it may be necessary to enlarge the sheet to A3.
These resources help build student confidence and is an important step for helping them structure their answers independently.

Creating a thesis-style introduction is a challenge for many students but is essential in helping students to reach levels 4-6 in the mark scheme. I have produced a simple 3 point structure to help students quickly generate a thesis statement in timed exam conditions. There is an example of the 3 point structure being used and then students attempt to imitate the structure for 4 other exam-style questions.

4 differentiated writing frames to 4 actual AQA power and conflict past exam questions. Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations.
