Feelings/Emotions: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Feelings/Emotions: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words for feelings/emotions (20 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task. - The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks. - The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed. Alternatively you can print the same page twice double-sided to produce flash cards.

Developing speaking in German: Shrink me, grow me!

Developing speaking in German: Shrink me, grow me!

A way of modeling and encouraging extended answers. Model a lengthy sentence, and students must take turns to remove one element but leave the sentence 'intact' (i.e. still sensical) until they get down to the most basic structure. Then it's their turn to build up again from a basic structure, element by element. Some students will want to race ahead and put in 5 things at once - this is ok if they can do it correctly; if not, encourage them to go step by step. The example here is on the topic of environment/Umwelt.

Speak, Write and Play In German

Speak, Write and Play In German

Are you learning German? Are you looking for a fun way to learn German? I have developed a way to learn different languages based on my experience as an ESL teacher. This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in German. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into German. At the end of the session, the students can play a fun game of word bingo to show they have mastered that day's vocabulary. Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone! * Please note - these resources provide visual prompts, not specific language instruction. German Bingo pack: This is a simple starter game for students. There are 114 different pictures to choose from. Select a single picture and project the image on the wall or share it with the class as a hand-out. Let's Talk in German!: This set of cards looks at 57 different settings. The teacher describes something in the top card. The students then use this to model a sentence using the bottom set of pictures. There are lots of things to see and describe in every picture. When the students have completed this task, they can repeat it by working in pairs to discuss each picture. Let's Write in German pack: There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning German. The students could write about a topic in German before and then after a topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic.
