The Archaeology of Ancient Greece

The Archaeology of Ancient Greece

Introduction to the project and teaching resources Within this folder you will find a series of documents about Ancient Greece with a focus on daily life and houses. All of these materials are designed for cross-curricula teaching and cover the English, History, Maths, Science, Geography, and Art subjects of the National Curriculum. Please do not feel that you have to use all of these files and the associated activities, as they may not all be appropriate for your teaching or timetable. The materials include both background information to the subjects covered, and actual teaching materials, including various activities. These resources were conceived together with the intention of providing teachers with all of the information they would need to teach a topic on daily life in Ancient Greece. Thus some of the activities will require you, as the teacher, to have engaged with all of the background materials within your planning, even if you do not use them directly in your lessons. For example, presentation 20, which provides information and activities for the Science curriculum on Vision and Light, requires you to have read about Greek houses and the family, which is found in presentations 05, 07-10 and 14. All of the teaching activities have been designed to support the students’ core knowledge and skills as outlined in the National Curriculum. For example, presentation 01 covers the topic of archaeology as a discipline, including what Classical archaeologists study, and where they undertake their excavations. Within this presentation (01) there are two specific activities on slides 3-6. The Kmz* file (02) (for use in Google Earth), and Presentations 03 and 04, extend this topic into Maths and Geography activities that can be done both in and outside the classroom. These activities may be followed by presentation 05, which focuses on the settlement (Olynthus) that provides the basis of many of the other presentations about specific issues regarding houses, daily life and the family in Ancient Greece. Presentation 06 is a LEGO Education activity that is linked to presentations 01 and 05, and develops students’ work in the English, Art and Design subjects of the National Curriculum.

In addition, the bundle includes email transcripts from both sources stating permission to obtain and use commercially! Images were only downloaded from these sources in which commercial usage was guaranteed...and even encouraged! Excellent Selection-Hours of searching. Found Treasures only includes images that were thought to be good choices for products, covers, and classrooms. Appropriateness, aesthetics, subject matter, visuals, and potential for use were considered on each piece. Save yourself the hours of searching through public domain images and questioning their restrictions and determining the best images. The best images for use were determined selected and saved to this bundle! Quality! Timeline Ancient Greece Poster

Timeline Ancient Greece Poster

This timeline shows the history of the Ancient Greek Civilisation, divided into the most common periods. Above the timeline you will find a short description of the highlights of each period in the same colour as that period on the timeline. Below the timeline, important events are added in the colours of each period. The specific events that marked the transitions between the different periods are added with thicker borders and fading colours. I refer to this poster almost every lesson when I'm teaching Greek or ancient history! It is very useful to allow the students to keep an overview in their mind when we're talking about a specific historical event or person. My students have gotten so used to my poster that they for example say that Plato of course lived in the "yellow"; period, that Homer's texts are from the "blue" period and that the story of Theseus and the Minotaur is situated in the "pink" period. The file is large and detailed enough to print on an A1 format as a poster. I have a Dutch version available too.

Ancient Civilizations Inventors Extraordinaire IB PYP Unit of Inquiry

Ancient Civilizations Inventors Extraordinaire IB PYP Unit of Inquiry

Take the children back in time. Be the Miss Frizz of your classroom with this complete IB PYP unit of inquiry. Where We Are in Place and Time: Ancient Civilizations contributed to today’s society. This is one of my favourite social studies units of inquiry. By delving back in time, thousands and thousands of years, the children can explore the concept of time and exactly how life was like back in time, how the ancient inventions brought change to society and how they have impacted our life today. I have taught this unit of inquiry for 5 years, with both 3rd grade and 5th grade. Each time, I find that it is one of my favourite. There is so much to explore. With over 100 pages of interactive, hands on , engaging, inquiry based activities, this transdisciplinary unit will take you through math, science, geography, reading for information and, of course, history. As we travelled through time with our toilet paper timeline, we explored the cradle of civilization: The Mesopotamians. From there, we travelled into North Africa to visit the Ancient Egyptians. The inquiries came flooding fast and furiously as we learned more and more about how people lived way back then through hands on technology experiments, design experiments, research, communication and much ,much more. How do they sail back up the river? How did they move such enormous rocks to build the pyramids? How did the wheel begin? How do scientists come up with ideas? Who invented math? How did our writing evolve from their symbols of writing? Why do they have different gods? What happened to their gods? Learning how to read clues from artefacts and also from evidence in the text, helped us to become incredible historians as we had to figure out the source of ancient artwork. This involved a lot of reading for information, analysing text and recognising non fiction text features. Through explorations within math, reading, writing, geography, history and art, the children gather knowledge of how ancient civilizations developed and contributed to societies today. If you enjoy this complete unit of inquiry, you may also like my others: Revolutionaries, Rainforests and Food Chains, Adaptations of Living Things, Exploring poetry, Exploring Explorers and many more found in my blog store. MESSALINA FLASHCARDS WITH DEFINITIONS. WJCE GCSE LATIN LITERATURE: NARRATIVES 9542

There are 10 packs of flashcards one for each paragraph of the prescribed text. I have made flashcards for every single word in the text. This is perfect for ensuring that you or your class know all the latin, so the literature test runs as smoothly as possible. Knowing the latin is essential before the exam and you will not have the time to look up the translations and for the majority of the trickier words, WJCE does not give the translations in the exam. All of the latin words I have included are in their conjugated form and appear like they do on the actual test so no brain power is needed when doing the exam. It is an extremely value resource and will certainly save time and boost your grade.
