Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.

In the deck of 42 cards there are 7 families of 6 cards (je - tu - il - nous - vous - ils). One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the “pioche”. One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He might say, “Dans la famille VENDRE, est-ce que tu as TU VENDS?” His goal is to come up with a complete family. If the player doesn’t have it, he says “pioche”. If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. Charlie Hebdo - liberté d'expression - authentic materials - MFL - FRENCH

Charlie Hebdo - liberté d'expression - authentic materials - MFL - FRENCH

This can make up a series of lessons about the Charlie Hebdo attacks of 2015 in Paris. More suited to KS4 and possible a more mature Year 9 group given the nature of the topic and the vocab used. The first few slides are a selection of starters using authentic materials that get pupils responding to images in a similar vain to the GCSE photocard. The lessons get pupils looking at current affairs but also looks at grammar, genuine quotes, and an article amongst other activities such as opinion lines. My classes really found this topic interesting but it also pushed them in terms of language, vocabulary and grammar. Alongside this Powerpoint I have also used the French Netflix documentary « Je suis Charlie » https://www.netflix.com/watch/80079253?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C1%2C491adc434dd06655319d9ea4a3625e6e22127a0d%3A5b75458081903e484cb2dc14579e901ead7c8d6c%2C%2C WARNING: not all of this documentary is suitable for showing to students so make yourself aware of the sections that ought to be skipped before pressing play! Obviously as this is on Netflix it requires a subscription and for it not to be blocked on the school IT system. Notes to teacher: SENSITIVE SUBJECT MATTER: Please look through all powerpoint and be aware of sensitive nature of this topic and be mindful of your classes potential response before using.
