All 50 Maths Foundation Homework Revision Sheets (9-1) - Includes all ANSWERS

This is a bundle of all 5 sets of my homework sheets. I have been giving these out as a homework booklet to my year 11’s all year. For me a booklet consists of Homework 1,11,21,31,41,and 51. We then go through the answers so students can self assess. I feel these have helped strengthen their understanding on some of the basic topics, leaving me more time in class to concentrate on more complex problems.

Transforming graphs of a function/ Plotting transformations with Desmos/ GeoGebra

L/O: To plot and then comment on transformations of a function. Worksheet activity where students type in basic function f(x)=x squared into Desmos or GeoGebra and then do various transformations of this function. Students plot and draw what happens on the graphs and make a comment about what they find. Comment sections are scaffolded to guide pupils in describing the transformation. The worksheet is 4 sides of A4, with a gradual increase in difficulty. I have used this with high ability year 7 and 8 classes, plus high and middle ability year 9, 10 and 11 classes. Transforming function graphs (translations and reflections of non-trigonometric graphs) is grade 7 on the new GCSE 9-1 scale. As an unprotected Word document you can edit it as required.

Logic & problem-solving saves wise man

An evil Emperor kidnapped the wisest man in the kingdom and said he was to be put to death. His family pleaded for his life, so the Emperor decided to have some evil fun and give the wise man a chance. The wise man is given 12 pills; 11 are poison and one is safe. The pills are identical except the safe one has a slightly differently weight. He is also given a balance on which he can weigh them. He can only make 3 weighings then he has to take one of the pills. Designed for G&T years 9/10 this calls on all their logic and problem-solving skills. Ideally placed for collaborative working, where trial-and-error tests their ability to be wrong and yet try again. From a teaching perspective this is a real, practical, maths task, where the use of props such as Smarties or Tic-Tacs makes it more realistic than the static pencil and paper - or if you have access to some sort of ‘pod’, like those inside Kinder eggs, it’s very simple to make one slightly heavier than the rest to really bring it to life. We Solve Problems is a charity, founded by three PhD mathematicians, whose aim is to promote the use of advanced mathematics within secondary schools. We want to encourage creative mathematical thinking, to develop a skill within pupils for presenting their results clearly and coherently, as well as promoting personal problem-solving skills. Visit us at wesolveproblems.org.uk. We would very much appreciate it if you could take time to follow us, and hopefully review this resource as well, as this helps others to find us. Thank you.

This can be used to generate quadratic and cubic sequences and uses difference table to show the step by step solution. It also has a quadratic solver which will give the nth term of a sequence. On the right hand side there are cells that can be copied and pasted to use the sequence.

Tried and tested, and corrected(!), in the classroom many times. This download includes a pdf file as well as the original powerpoint file for easy editing.

Triple Simultaneous Equations

Here’s seven triple-simultaneous-equations plus one quadruple-simultaneous-equation. A great extension task for more able students (whilst others consolidate and ensure that they understand regular, two-simulataneous-equations). Whilst harder, these all have whole number solutions (bar the last triple question) so that students can focus on the maths and proceedures without getting bogged down in numberwork. Includes answers. Tried and tested in the classroom many times. This download includes a pdf file as well as the original Word file for easy editing.
