The file contains a Powerpoint and a PDF presentation that is definitely going to catch the kids’ eyes, and two worksheets for the children to answer afterwards - because we can’t just make slime for the fun of it! I’ve tested this in my own Year 2 classroom and I HIGHLY recommend doing this activity outside - I had to speak very nicely to the cleaner after school when we did this one!

When given the items and a clear bowl filled with water they can place the item in and observe if the item sinks or floats, enabling them to discover if they were right or wrong in their predictions. A great activity for all abilities with 3 worksheets to demonstrate the children’s understanding and learning. Includes pictures of items to experiment with, and pictures for float or sink. 3 worksheets to discover magnetic and not magnetic items, plus 2 extension worksheets. Great to reinforce learning, use prediction and observation to record children’s understanding and learning. Includes a fourth worksheet for higher ability level students to record findings by answering some simple questions, recapping their observations, and a blank worksheet for students to select their own items to predict and check. Uses photographic items and clear pictures for items that are magnetic or not magnetic to enable easy recording. Get students to cut out and stick items, then record if they think it will be magnetic or not magnetic. Give them the items and a magnet and allow them to explore if their predictions were correct. For higher level students- encourage them to identify more obscure items, then predict if it will be magnetic or not magnetic, then allow them to discover if they were correct.

I have created a variety of worksheets - some can be used with the help of information texts or/and Internet as a means to record answers. • Fill in the missing words to complete fact sheets about the Sun and each planet and Moon in our solar system • Temperatures : identify the planets different temperatures and write their names on the thermometer (use table about planets – included) • Match descriptions to pictures of planets (cut and paste) • Cut out pictures of Sun, planets and Moon to create our solar system and how planets orbit around the Sun or/and create a line diagram to show the distance each planet have from the Sun • Label planets orbiting in our solar system • In Orbit: fill in the missing words to complete facts about our Earth, Moon and Sun’s orbits • Space Exploration: fill in the missing words to complete facts about different spacecrafts Further activities that can be linked to other Science topics • Gravity Pulls: work out own weight in Newtons; how much you weigh if you were on the Moon • Gravity and Other Forces: complete facts about different forces using terms ‘gravity, air resistance, thrust and friction’. • Solids, Liquids and Gases: Draw lines to sort each of these materials into the correct group; recognize what different planets (Mars, Earth, Saturn) are made of • Dissolving and Separating: carry fair tests to find out which materials dissolves in water; in cold water; and in hot water Thanks for looking :)

Take It Apart Club

Take It Apart Club was designed for Year 5 & 6. Pupils take apart broken electrical items such as telephones, tablets, sandwich toasters. They use tools to do so, with assistance from staff where needed. The sheets help to identify common components which they are likely to find. Please see the rules for information concerning your Risk Assessment. Our pupils wore eye protection. The aim was to harness the pupils curiosity and increase familiarity with tools. It was hoped they would learn some components but this was not enforced in a lunchtime club.
