Interactive Car Tallying Exercise

Interactive Car Tallying Exercise

The pupils have to tally red, blue, green and yellow cars as they fly past in the presentation. This has proved a popular resource at both schools I have taught, particularly with lower ability classes

Maths with Smarties

Maths with Smarties

These are two lesson plans (Yr 4 data handling and Yr 5 Number). Both lessons use Smarties as a fun way of tackling fractions and also have specific guidance on how to extend your more able mathematicians.

Promoting data handling skills

This transition project allows pupils to handle data in a real life context. The work is split over four year groups from Years 5 to 8, with opportunity for groups to revisit the previous year’s results. Year 5 collects discrete data, finds the mode and range and displays the results on an interactive bar graph. Year 6 collects discrete data, finds the mode, median, mean and range and displays their results on an interactive pictogram. Year 7 collects discrete data and displays their data on an interactive scatter diagram.

www.everymathstopic.com Revision GSCE. Resources.

An organised web site with resources to teaching and revision. The topics are listed by sub topic and then by SATs level and GCSE grade. There are over 400 pages on the site, all with links and resources to use free of charge. The students pages contain cross referenced links to every page on the site, again listed by SATs level and GCSE grade. Teacher may add resources by sending them to the author at mrmarsh@everymathstopic.com Topics also included: revision.

NRICH - Reaction Timer

NRICH - Reaction Timer

Collecting, processing and Analysing Data Key Stage: 3 ★ Try these two different ways of measuring your reaction times. What questions can you ask about the data? The skills of making and testing hypotheses and analysing data are important both in mathematics and in scientific enquiry. This problem is an ideal starting point for developing these skills. Learners need to make decisions about the information that is required to answer the questions posed, analyse the data that is collected, and decide whether the analysis supports the hypothesis. This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions. The file attached is a HTML file, which, when opened, automatically redirects you to the problem on the NRICH website.
