#### Expanding Brackets Algebra Puzzle

Expanding Brackets Algebra Puzzle There are 12 equilateral triangles with an algebraic expression on each side. When simplified, some of the expressions are the same. Cut out all the triangles. Fit the pieces together to make 2 hexagons. The algebra expressions on the touching edges of each triangle must be the same. All answers are included. Objective: To practice:- • expanding and factorising algebra (with one and two brackets) • simplifying expressions. Directions: Print out the 2 pages of triangles for each student. Students cut them out and then try to match them to make 2 hexagon shapes. All answers are included, so you can easily check their work. The hexagons can be glued into the students books or onto paper. The questions are non-calculator. The document is 7 pages in total, but you will only need to print out 2 pages for the students. This resource can be printed in black and white. You may also like Simplifying Algebra Fish Matching Activity Please visit Maths Shop to see more of my resources. #### Working With Algebra

Having been asked to help some students (Years 9 and 10) who lacked confidence in class I decided to write these four sheets that we will go through together; the questions are designed to get increasingly difficult and to encourage questions and discussion. There are also various answers for some of the questions, another chance for a mathematical discussion. Topics covered include simplifying expressions, indices, expanding brackets (and therefore factorising) and basic algebraic fractions. The questions are varied in the hope of not allowing students to get into a rut and answer without thinking carefully. I have also introduced the word and symbol “identity”. I hope it is useful.

#### Linear Simultaneous Equations Word Problems (IGCSE/GCSE)

This presentation is a step-by-step guide that would help students with word problems on linear simultaneous equations.I have included five different types of word problems that GCSE/IGCSE students are likely to come across. By the end of this lesson students will be able to construct simultaneous equations by deriving information from the word problem. Students should be able to solve simultaneous equations using both the substitution and elimination methods prior to this lesson. The word problems used in this presentation are from the Extended Mathematics for Cambridge IGCSE book by David Rayner. Do drop a comment below to let me know what you think of this resource. Your ratings will also be highly valued.

#### Expand Brackets - Battleships

A simple resource based on battleships around expanding a single bracket by a coefficient. This was created as part of a no pen series of lessons to promote good oracy in lessons. There are two versions, rock hard and ice cool with the left hand side of the table giving you the multiplier for the bracket. I have left it as a word document so it can easily be adapted.

I used this when teaching Year 7 how to expand double brackets. They had to put expressions into the grids, so that each row and column multiplies to give the quadratic expression at the end. This helped them discover how to factorise quadratics! Answers are provided. Inspired by a similar, but more difficult, task from Don Steward: https://donsteward.blogspot.com/2014/12/algebraic-product-puzzles.html

#### Maths-Algebra-Code breaking - Team work- Activity- KS3 or KS4 - Changing the subject-Coefficients

A brilliant resource that incorporates: Algebra, rearranging equations, changing the subject in equations, applying algebra to a problem, team work. I made this resource and got offered a job when I did a job interview. They said it was the best planned and most engaging lesson they had ever seen. Keep it up your sleeve for an observation from your Head of Department or even better OFSTED. Mission cards should be printed backed and laminated and the resource can be re-used over and over. The task involves simple algebra, changing the subject, positive and negative numbers.
