Factorising Quadratics Maze

Factorising Quadratics Maze

A rich task with built in extension which requires students to simplify algebraic fractions by factorising. The task involves moving from one side of the "maze" by finding expression which simplify to x+3. The attached Powerpoint contains slides with each individual slide. These can be printed off either 1 or 6 per page to create "Supersize resources" which I use as table top resources or floor mats for a more interactive activity. If you have the time, arrange them on display paper and cover with sticky back plastic so students can use whiteboard pens directly on the resource and can be reused. I personally have done this with a number of the mazes and reuse them regularly. I have a range of these "maze" activities including substitution, equivalence of FDP, solving equations and index laws, along with a larger range of matchcard and domino activities.

Exit Ticket - Adding and Subtracting Algebraic Fractions

Exit Ticket - Adding and Subtracting Algebraic Fractions

I give this to the students (printed in A4 or A5 depending on how much room they need) at the end of the lesson to assess an overview of the lesson. I mark it as soon as I can (ha) and it allows me to spot any misconceptions. The last question is a challenge one to push the most able students.
