Factorising, Completing the Square, Quadratic Formula Card Sort

My once a year card sort! These are written already in order so either: a) Cut them out yourself (groan) OR b) Just give them to the kids and get them to cut them out and don't mention they are already in order. I always say cut up a column at a time. This gives students different types of question and formats, matches to the way they should solve and then finally the answers. Really good for students who can do all three things but can't decide what to do when. Any feedback please let me know!

Clue! Quadratic Functions - Vertex, Factoring, Quadratic Form. Word Problems, Graphing

A quadratic function take on the classic game of clue! Can you solve the clues to determine the suspect, accomplice, room and weapon? Students will work through 4 clues: Your students will use knowledge of finding a vertex, factoring, using the quadratic formula, solving word problems and graphing parabolas. Students will record their answers on their clue sheet to reveal the final solution. Students are given a cipher to turn their number answers into letters. Cut out both circles and spin the numbers to match the appropriate letter. Students are also provided a score sheet, just like the game, so they can mark off their final answer. Form and Solve Quadratic Equations

Students learn how to form and solve quadratic equations from geometry problems. Problems include finding the area of a rectangle with algebraic lengths to setting up an equation from similar shapes. The start of the lesson recaps finding the area of composite shapes with algebraic lengths as this is needed throughout the lesson. The plenary challenges students to derive and solve a quadratic equation from the surface area of a cuboid. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to form a quadratic equation from a rectilinear area. Most students should be able to use geometrical facts to set up and solve a quadratic equation when a = 1. Some students should be able to form and solve a quadratic equation from geometrical facts.
