Initial Sound Center

Initial Sound Center

This Initial Sounds Center is a perfect center for any Reception or Year 1 classroom! At the center, students clip the letter on the clothes pin to the picture with the matching beginning sound. The beginning sounds sheets are included in colour and black & white. To organise this center, I print each letter chart with a different coloured background and then laminate. Using a different coloured marker for each clothes pin set, I write lower case letters from a to z. Each set is put in a plastic ziploc baggie. I use different coloured markers for each set of clothes pins so that students do not mix up their clothes pins. The pictures for initial sounds are as follows: a - astronaut b - boat c - car d - duck e - elf f - flower g - guitar h - helicopter i - iguana j - jar k - kite l - lamp m - money n - necklace o - otter p - pig q - queen r - rocket s - sun t - tape u - umbrella v - vegetables w - window x - x-ray y - yarn z - zipper

Night Time Presentation and Visual Story Prompts, Fun Story and 31 Activities

Night Time Presentation and Visual Story Prompts, Fun Story and 31 Activities

I have collected together my night time resources to make a lovely lesson starting with a night time story, followed by things we see in the night and a night time writing prompt. I have also included a teacher guide to show teachers how to use these Photo Flash cards in 31 different teaching activities in the classroom. These activities are easy to arrange, lots of fun and will improve your students' vocabulary and memory skills. You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different locations being shown in each of the images. You could print off and laminate the images to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts. The students could also take five of the laminated images and create them into a story . The images could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

The difference being if you want a product full of pictures or one without pictures and lots of links to the free site you downloaded it from. Some don't mind, others are looking for a more professional image. I took a lot of time to clear away all the hyperlinks, and add photos and I am very happy with the final outcome. Phonics PowerPoint for j, y, summER, cORn

Phonics PowerPoint for j, y, summER, cORn

This is for (ESL) teachers who need an engaging phonics lesson for KS1 or pre-KS1. This works best with a whiteboard, but will work on a green blackboard as well. The PPT includes activities that get students up at the board, recognising sounds in words and pictures, using gestures to indicate sounds, with a bit of writing/spelling as well. The PPT also includes teaching notes. I used this as a one-hour lesson, but it could easily be split and made shorter according to your needs. Please let me know what you think so that I can improve my materials.
