PSHE: New PSHE 2018-19 Part 2

10 hours of new PSHE lessons on some of the most pertinent and pressing issues facing students in 2018/19. These topics have been identified by the PSHE Association as essentials for the coming year and so this bundle has been planned following their recommendations. This is part two of a two part pack. PART ONE All 10 lesson packs are complete with at least one hour-long powerpoint, accompanying differentiated worksheets, clip links with questions, plenaries, clear LOs, starters and engaging, varied main task activities. All are well differentiated to three levels throughout to enable clear evidence of progress for all students. These lessons have been selected to be in this bundle as they all focus on relatively new issues or ones which need further awareness amongst young people in an ever-changing world full of mental health issues, new technology, crime and potentially tough futures which lie ahead. These resources have been highly-rated individually by TES users, follow the same consistent format and are easy to follow. There is zero extra work required, although each lesson is still completely editable too. I use all of these myself as a Head of PSHE and Citizenship and I really hope you find them excellent value. I’ve put literally months of time into this to make these lessons top quality for my own school team. I have ‘One Year of PSHE’ Packs for Years 7, 8, 9 and KS4. Understanding Autism, disability and difference

Understanding Autism, disability and difference

This powerpoint guides users through a lesson to help young children understand that people have different needs and how it is right and fair to accommodate them. Ideal for exploring diversity, disability, autism and the paralympics. One of the main characters features Stephen Wiltshire (the human camera) as child. It would be a valuable activity to watch videos of him on youtube . This would help explore that we all have different strengths and weaknesses. This resource was developed by Spectrum Savvy to help build peer relationships and tolerance where autistic learners were being misunderstood in mainstream. Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day Fortune Teller Craft for Gift Vouchers or Promises

Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day Fortune Teller Craft for Gift Vouchers or Promises

Fortune Tellers, or Cootie Catchers, for a printable Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day craft gift. Students really love fortune tellers, or cootie catcher, so why not use them for a fun craft idea for Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day and for any special person? This is a craft, thinking, writing, drawing activity. These are IOU promises or pledges that students offer as gifts. The idea is that they can play with the mother or father, and end up on a promise to do something, as a gift. I’ve included a list of suggestions to offer. This is like a book of gift vouchers, that can be used over and over. Students decorate the catcher with items the parents likes and writes the promises, or IOU pledges in the center. There are instructions, and a QR code to watch someone make a cooties catcher, so this could be a centre task, with students independently reading, listening and following instructions. There’s a choice of eight catchers:  Mothers’ Day  Fathers’ Day  You’re a Special person (for grandparents, step-parents, friends)  Some are complete with images and promises  Some are almost blank, for students to think, decide, draw, write Although I designed these for Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day, some catchers are suitable for Valentines, grandparents, or special gifts.

KS1 Picasso/Cubism Portrait Art lesson pack

KS1 Picasso/Cubism Portrait Art lesson pack

This pack includes a 4-part lesson plan, which focuses on the famous artist Picasso and cubism style artwork. Including in the planning is the National Curriculum objectives covered, lesson objectives, teaching and assessment points. Each child produces their very own Picasso style self-portrait over a period of lessons. It allows the children to learn about lines, patterns, as well as key primary colours. The children can then be reflective of their artwork and make comparisons to Picasso’s work, on a worksheet (provided in the pack). I taught this my Year 2 Class but it can make a great art focus for any Year’s from 1-4. The finished artwork leads to a great school display! I hope you enjoy teaching the topic as much as I did!

Be nice - assembly

Be nice - assembly

“Be nice” assembly This assembly has been put together by a Head of Year/Pastoral Leader and is designed to be delivered to a whole year group/house or used within tutor time/dinnertime club, or after school club etc. Aims To remind students to “Work hard. Be nice”. (My favourite saying) A previous assembly (“Growth mindset”-which I will also post on TES shortly) focused on the “Work hard” part so you improve your intelligence and talents. This assembly focuses on the “Be nice” part so that we may enjoy stronger friendships and other healthy relationships. This assembly is based on 3 stories. There are morals to each story that can be explored to encourage students to: be nice to others, treat others how you want to be treat, take responsibility for your attitude to improve your experience of the world, and don’t let others decide how you will act or feel. (This is a concept used in my Life coaching called TFAR – Thoughts, Feelings, Actions, Results, and is explained to an appropriate depth in the notes within the PowerPoint on slide 6.) The assembly has 9 slides and no video clips, so no need to worry about your school internet letting you down! It will last 10-15minutes, depending on how much audience participation you encourage. The three stories to tell are wrote as a script in the notes at the bottom of the relevant slide. However, since the notes are not visible once you start the PowerPoint, for your convenience, I have also copied the stories onto slides 10, 11, 12 so you may print them off prior to the assembly to learn by heart, or, to read from during the assembly if you wish. This assembly forms a series of assemblies (10-15 in total- which I will be adding in the very near future) designed to build a positive year group identity, and to boost the resilience of the individual students. Kindest Regards Matthew Obee

Cinco de Mayo ESCAPE ROOM - Fun Facts, May 5th, Mexico, Battle of Puebla

Cinco de Mayo ESCAPE ROOM - Fun Facts, May 5th, Mexico, Battle of Puebla

The Cinco de Mayo Escape Room will take students on a secret mission around the classroom! This escape room has students decode interesting facts about the history of the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. This is the perfect resource to introduce the Battle of Puebla. The Cinco de Mayo Escape Room has students walking around the classroom breaking codes. Students are given a secret code name and sent on a secret mission to help Tonya share her Mexican culture. The codes include ciphers, Morse code, cryptograms and a final 4 digit code based on the decoders/clues. Each clue and code is different. The codes require students to think differently to decipher or decode them. Some codes require critical thinking to determine what a letter/symbol stands for. Each code will reveal interesting facts about Cinco de Mayo. The use of secret code will keep your students engaged while competing to find the final code. Students can report the final code to you. If you wanted to, you could purchase a 4 digit lock that you program, but it is not necessary at all! No props needed!! This is a NO PREP, PRINT & GO Activity! Students are sent on a “secret mission” and given a back story to ignite their active learning skills. They are given a code name which makes them feel as if they are part of the secret mission. Students practice hands-on, practical problem solving skills all while learning about Cinco de Mayo. Your students will be inspired to think outside the box! Spy themed music is highly recommended! The best age range for this resource is 8+. Please look at the preview to determine if this resource works for your age group. Younger students may need some help with some of the more difficult codes. You can use the pre-labeled clues or you can challenge older kids to choose/find the decoder that works for each of the clues. A set of labeled and non-labeled decoders are included for differentiation. A “How to Decode” puzzles is also included. In addition to learning or reinforcing the subject matter, my escape rooms encourage teamwork and critical thinking. As a “timed” challenge, students will be engaged from beginning to end. New Feature: This escape room now includes 12 fun, colorful signs to take class pictures with at the end of the mission. Signs include “Puzzle Master”, “She did all the work”, “Genius”, “We did it”, “I Escaped” and more! Hang the pictures in your room, send them in a parent newsletter or share them on social media  An answer key and easy to follow teacher directions are provided. Time needed: 30-60 minutes

Easter Go Fish Card Game (have/have got)

Easter Go Fish Card Game (have/have got)

A card game to practice Easter vocabulary and have/have got in their various forms. To play: Divide students into groups of 4 or so and deal 4-5 cards each. The rest go in the middle and make the pond /pool/. On his turn, a player asks someone for a card (Have you got…? or Do you have…?) in order to get 4 of a kind (or 6, depending on how many cards you make). If the player has the card, he must hand it over and the player whose turn it is can ask anyone for another card. If the answer is negative, the player is told to go fish and to take a card from the pond and the next person asks for a card. When a player has 4 (or 6) of a kind, he sets them on the table and plays again. Continue until all the cards run out (all the cards have been grouped together into families according to their picture). The winner is the person with the most families. This worksheet contains two of each picture, so I would suggest printing it two or three times to form a set where students can get 4 or 6 of a kind. Enjoy!

Bill’s New Frock [Winner of the Smarties Prize]. – Complete Unit of Work

Bill’s New Frock [Winner of the Smarties Prize]. – Complete Unit of Work

Bill’s New Frock [Winner of the Smarties Prize]. – Complete Unit of Work This study unit is based on the highly acclaimed book by Anne Fine. The theme of this humorous book is to encourage pupils to consider common sexual stereotyping whilst encouraging positive images around both genders. The copy referred to in the text was published in 2017 by Egmont UK Limited. ISBN 978 1 4052 8533 9 The work has been designed to be a flexible resource. Teachers can use it as a simple prompt to ask pupils questions as they read on in a ‘whole class’ study, or it can be used in small-supported group work, given as independent work for the more able reader or set as extended ‘Homework’. The study booklet is bright and bold with illustrations throughout that will encourage even the most reluctant reader to read-on! It is presented in separate chapters and includes a range of tasks/activities, including; writing, roleplay, crosswords, research, sketching/drawing and deeper thinking. The pupils are required to read/share set pages and then answer questions by drawing inferences on characters’ feelings, thoughts and motives for their actions. Pupils are expected to justifying these inferences with evidence shown in their replies. • Pupils are expected to identify the main ideas of the story by drawing evidence from more than one paragraph/element of the book. • Pupils will check the text and then demonstrate their understanding by explaining the meaning of words and phrases used. • Pupils will be encouraged to predict what might happen from implied and stated details. • Puzzles have been included that emphasise selected words and phrases used to capture the reader’s interest and imagination. By the end of this study pupils will be able to justify their views about ‘Bill’s New Frock’ by expressing their opinions clearly and supporting their viewpoint with relevant evidence.
