The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

This is a 10 minute medley that I have edited and produced. It would be great for a school performance or an assembly activity. The songs included (in order) are: The greatest show, Million Dreams, This is Me and Come Alive. There are 3 files to this resource: The Song Sheet the lyrics are in two colours, Black for solo singing parts that can be split to suit your group and Blue for the ensemble parts. The Medley MP3 This is a medley arranged by myself, it is a backing track but the original singers remain for the ensemble parts just to give the kids a bit of help. The Medley with singing MP3 I have recorded the song with vocals to show where the solo parts come in. I performed this medley with KS1 and Lower KS2 children. I split the solo parts into 3-4 lines each child, either alone or in little groups. They had no trouble learning their parts and the added ensemble vocals gave the volume needed for the big chorus parts. Please leave a review and happy singing!

PROCESSIONS Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality exploration

Inspired by the ideas, themes and history behind PROCESSIONS https://www.processions.co.uk/, our aim is for this resource to be a starting point for your pupils/students to explore and learn about the history of Women’s Suffrage, democracy and gender equality. We have created some simple and easy to follow activities to include in your teaching plans, which will encourage your pupils/students to develop historical knowledge and awareness of Women’s Suffrage as well as offering an opportunity to discuss gender equality within today’s context. Activities encourage responses through discussion, movement, debate, music and visual art. The resources are primarily designed for Years 5-8 in England and Wales, Years 6-9 in Northern Ireland and P6-S2 in Scotland, but they’re easily accessible for lower and upper age ranges. We want to encourage your pupils/students to explore their own views and opinions on gender equality today, as well as gaining an understanding about the importance of democracy and using your vote. Only 57% of 18-19-year olds voted in the last election (source YouGov website) and we want this project to encourage young people to vote in the future and inspire them to have their voice heard. This resource pack provides creative ideas as to how to work with your pupils/students. It is modular so it can be followed through from beginning to end or activities can be picked out and used individually. At times you might work with the class as a whole and at other times you may task smaller groups with the different activities provided. We have suggested subject links as part of each activity to help make useful connections with your teaching plans. These activities when paired with our banner-making toolkits will give your students/pupils stimuli and inspiration for the content of their banners. We would love schools to take part in the PROCESSIONS on the 10th of June, but acknowledge that this may not be possible for all, so we want to stress that this pack can be used before or after the event and used to inspire pupils, students and teachers using the themes and ideas behind PROCESSIONS. Produced by Artichoke and commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, PROCESSIONS will commemorate 100 years since the first women in the UK won the vote. On Sunday 10th June 2018, thousands of women and girls, those who identify as women and non- binary individuals, will form four epic processions in the four political capitals of the UK – Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. Given green, white or violet to wear, the colours of the suffrage movement whose initials stood for “Give Women Votes”, they will together create waves of colour as they celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage.

Giant Tortoise: I live on the Galapagos islands, off the South American coast. Narrator: Whoa! That’s a long way! Giant Tortoise: Not as far as Mr Darwin travelled on his five-year trip! Narrator: So, you met the great man? (Enter Finch) Finch: We certainly did! Took some of us home with him! (Enter Darwin) Darwin: (To Giant Tortoise and Finch) You got me thinking about (To Giant Tortoise) Different patterned shells (To Finch) Different shaped beaks. You see, these creatures were different on each island suggesting they had adapted to their immediate environment. Giant Tortoise & Finch: (Together) Fascinating! (Exit Giant Tortoise & Finch) Narrator: Shall we look at some other examples? Darwin: (Enthusiastically) Certainly! This play has been written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of World War One in a way that is educational, entertaining and respectful to the sacrifice made by the combatants. The play is suitable for performance by children aged 10-11. The run-time for the performance is just under twenty minutes. The script includes recommendations for music and a song, suggestions for costumes, set arrangement and props required for each scene. There is a total of 24 roles; 3 roles are recommended for acting by girls, 3 roles are recommended for performance by boys. With doubling of roles as suggested, the play could be performed by 18 children. However, this number could easily be increased -or reduced- by two by adjusting the number of VOLUNTEERS. 15 pages including notes for staging, props, costumes and music suggestions.

The play allows some pupils to act as fairy folk, whilst others can choose from a wide variety of roles: including that of Science Professors. There are several suggested small songs for performance during the play. There is a wide variety of roles for pupils of different ability levels. This play is suitable for performance by pupils in Year 1 and Year 2. The maximum number of child participants required is 33; the minimum number required is 24. There is a role on stage for the class teacher, in order to assist with narration and the direction of pupils on stage if need be. Improvisation task based on Beatles' song lyrics

Suitable for KS2 and KS3 this drama resource is good for small groups getting to grips with the lyrics of classic Beatles’ song lyrics. Many of them tell stories which can be acted out and elaborated upon. Eg Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Obla di obla da, Penny Lane, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, A Day in the Life, Eleanor Rigby, Being for the benefit of Mr Kite, Yellow Submarine, Octopus’ Garden, etc. I used this idea with a group of adults with learning disabilities and there was so much scope for characterisation and improvisation. This could be done over several sessions. Ours culminated in a Beatles’ Day with performances before an invited audience. The resource itself is a worksheet that can be given to each group to fill in once they have chosen which song lyric is going to be their starting point for an improvisation.
